Monday 30th November

Happy Saint Andrew’s day everyone!  Today Primary 5/6 were introduced to the song that we have been asked to learn for the Christmas show.  We will be learning how to sign the lyrics in British Sign Language.  Our song is ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ and we made a good start this morning on learning the moves.  It would be great if everyone could practise at home too!

Friday 27th November

Recently, whilst in the playground doing gym or the daily mile, Primary 5/6 and I have noticed how much litter there is in the playground and just outside the school – so this morning we decided to do something about it! Primary 5/6 managed to collect lots of litter and it looks much better now! 👍🏼

Have a great weekend everyone, thanks for all your hard work today!

Wednesday 25th November

Today Primary 5/6 were working on developing their characterisation in stories. One group was brainstorming adjectives that could be used to describe a troll and the other group was looking at the difference between direct and indirect character descriptions. We learned that indirect character descriptions are more interesting for our readers and we were practising writing these.

Wednesday 18th November

Today Primary 5/6 had (a very soggy) outdoor P.E. lesson. The class enjoyed it but I was glad to get back into the warm again!

In literacy we were working on our summarising and inference skills and we used the Pixar short film, “For the Birds”, to discuss the impact that bullying can have. In maths we were practising our formal addition skills and everyone did fantastically well.

Have a great night Primary 5/6!

Wednesday 11th November

This morning Primary 5/6 went on a walk to hide our Remembrance rocks.  Whilst we were in the Remembrance garden, we took part in the two minute silence at 11 o’clock to remember the soldiers who sacrificed their lives so that we can be free today.

Tuesday 10th November

Mrs Davidson was in Primary 5/6 this morning teaching us about how to punctuate direct speech and about carroll diagrams in information handling. This afternoon we made the finishing touches to our rocks and did some yoga.

We are planning on walking to the remembrance garden tomorrow so please make sure that you are wearing a waterproof jacket and suitable shoes.

Monday 9th November

Today we have been learning about remembrance. We have learned that the reason people wear poppies around Remembrance Day is because of the poem ‘Flanders Fields’.  Additionally, we have heard the stories of several Scottish people who fought in the Great War, including the story of a young boy who came from Cumbernauld. In preparation for Remembrance Day on Wednesday, we have decorated some rocks which we are going to leave around the local area to help people remember all those who sacrificed their lives so that we can live ours.

Friday 6th November

This morning primary 5/6 were working on our number bonds.  If you would like a little extra practise Hit the Button is an excellent game: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

In literacy we were working on our inference skills or, in other words, our ability to read between the lines. We did really well and gave some well thought-out answers.

This afternoon we formed our salt dough diya lamps 🪔 I think they look fab!

To end the day we did a little more practise on the days of the week in French.  We will be moving on to learning the months of the year next week.

Phew – what a busy day! Have a great weekend everyone!
