There are two American astronauts šŸ‘©ā€šŸš€šŸ‘Øā€šŸš€ being sent up to space later today šŸš€. The launch of Falcon9 is happening around 9:30pm – it is quite late but if you are allowed to stay up you can watch it live here: NASA LIVE
If all goes to plan you should be able to see the roc ket from your window. It will pass around the UK about 9:45pm and look like a bright light moving in the sky – can you spot it šŸš€?!

Blending WednesdayĀ 

Today we are going to do some more work on letter blends – sometimes letter blends are called ‘consonant blends’.Ā Ā

Each letterĀ is said individually, but quickly, so they ā€˜blendā€˜ together.Ā 

 

Warm Up:

  • Can you read all the letter blends below? Remember to say each sound quickly so they ā€˜blendā€™ together!Ā

  • Try and say the letter blends in this video along with Jack Hartman

 

Main Activity:

  • Write down the words from the sheet by adding the correct letter blend to the beginning of the word
  • If you would like to, you can draw a picture next to your word

Today we are going to do some work on number problems.
Solving number problems means youā€™ve got to use your brain and think about what you have been asked – is it an adding sum or a taking away sum?
Lot of words give you a clue and help you work out if you have to add or subtract. Look at these posters to help you:

Main Activity:

Today in literacy I thought we could do some learning on fiction and non-fiction books.

Warm Up:

  • Have you heard of ‘fiction books‘ and ‘non-fiction books‘? Try and have a guess at what you think the words might mean then watch the videos below to see if you’re right!

Were you right? So, fiction books are made up stories that are not real and non-fiction book have facts, they teach us something and have information that is true. Ā

Main Activity:

  • Read the title of each book from this worksheet and decide if it is fiction (made up – not real) or non-fiction (real information, teaches us something)

Today we are going to learn about fractions. Fractions are when something is split into equal parts – all the pieces need to be the same size.Ā Ā 
Half‘ is a fraction. Sometimes it is written like this ‘1/2‘. Half means 1 whole split into 2 equal sized pieces.Ā

Today we are going to learn about letter blends. Learning letter blends helps us to read and write.
Each letter within theĀ blendĀ is said individually, but quickly, so they ‘blend‘ together. bl, br, cl, cr, dr, fr, tr, fl, gl, gr, pl, pr, sl, sm, sp and st are all examples of blends.Ā 

Warm Up:

  • Watch this video and read along with the blends

101 Silly Math Jokes and Puns to Make Students Laugh Like CrazyToday is our day we do some work on our subtraction skills.Ā 

Warm Up:

  • Go on a number hunt around the house and find as many numbers as you can – when you find a number, take away 1 from it e.g. if you find the number 16, take away 1 and your answer is 15Ā 
  • Remember – when you take away 1 you just go to the number before
  • What is the biggest number you can find? I managed to find the number 100 in a book so I took 1 away and wrote down 99. Can you beat me and find an even bigger number?

Main Activity:Ā

  • Write down your subtraction sums in your jotter and then answer them
  • If you find it easier, you can draw the pictures to help you solve each problem – cross out the amount to take away, then count how many are left

Today is the day we do some work on our writing šŸ“ .Ā  Remember it doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to spell a word – just sound it out and try your best to write it šŸ¤©.

Warm up:

  • Start today by writing the alphabet in your jotter –Ā  try and use your neatest handwriting
  • Make sure you remember tall, fall and small letters
  • You can choose to practice writing lowercase letters, uppercase letters or both!

Main Activity:

  • Look at the picture below.Ā  Talk about it with someone at home. Think about these questions:
What is the weather like?
Are they a family?
What are they doing?
What are they doing with the bucket and spade?

Last week we started to add 3 numbers together.Ā  Remember ā€“ you can add numbersĀ in any order, the answer will always be the same.
When you are adding 3 numbers, look forĀ easy numbersĀ to add together first:
  • numbers thatĀ add to 10,Ā then add the last number
  • look forĀ doubles and near doublesĀ to help you add
  • start with theĀ largestĀ numberĀ and add on theĀ smaller numbers
