Both P7 class joined together for a very enjoyable ceilidh afternoon. We all enjoyed some traditional scottish country dancing and tasted some traditional scottish cuisine, all washed down by “yer other national drink”. Zoe Shearer gave the address to the Haggis and Craig McNutt said the Selkirk grace. Everyone had a fantastic time. See some pictures of the event bellow.
Our week in a nutshell
We have once again had another very busy and hard working week.
In maths our new subject area is time, pupils have been timing each other over a variety of activities and we will collate this information in a future session. We have also been revising analogue and digital times and working out time durations.
In literacy we are enhancing or reading comprehension and focusing on using novels to carefully select the relevant information. We are continuing to explore spelling strategies and rules.
We have begun to explore Biodiversity as our new IDL subject.
We created some terrific still life pencil drawings, focusing on; line, scale, position and shading.

Our four capacities certificate was awarded to Emma McMurray for being an effective contributor.
Well done girls. Both these pupils set a consistently good example within their class and throughout the school. Be proud.
Primary 7 Ceilidh afternoon.
Next Wednesday afternoon (03/02) we are planning a ceilidh afternoon for both primary 7 classes. We will be enjoying some scottish country dancing and some traditional scottish fayre. We have asked that pupils dress in a semi-formal style for this event, not casual.

Term 3
Term 3 is now well under way and we have learned a great deal researching Scottish inventors and their inventions.
Everyone had fun creating their own poetry using Scottish dialect.
Pupils have made and presented fantastic personal projects on a chosen famous Scot. Thank you parents for supporting your children in completing this task.
We have been learning a scottish poem – Street Talk by J. K. Annand, along with a song about the great scots inventors. We were able to present these at our Scotland theme assembly. See a clip of the performance below.
Our Learning
This week we have managed to fit quite a lot of learning in, around our school shows.
In maths we have continued to focus on Data Handling using frequency charts and graphs to read and record data. We have also been learning about; mean, median, mode and range.
In literacy we have been using media, specifically News Round to record information for our written tasks. We are also continuing to use non fiction texts in class.
**** Reminder to all pupils**** bring in the home reader that you told me about as we will be using this for a writing activity next week in class.
We have begun to explore the theme of “A Healthy Lifestyle” as part of our Health and Wellbeing programme. We are starting by exploring a balanced diet.
Christmas Show
Primary 7 gave fantastic performances at all of our school shows. Everyone was very impressed by our french song, everyone worked very hard to learn and perfect the words.
