Reminder that the Cholesterol essay is to be done before Wednesday.  Hand it in as an assignment in Teams.  Now that we have finished 2.7 pathology of cardiovascular disease, we will be moving onto the final subunit of unit 2, 2.8 “Blood glucose levels and Obesity”.  Pupils are being asked to read through the PowerPoint and try to fill in pupil notes.  Wednesday’s live lesson p2 and 3 will go over the control of blood glucose and calculating BMI.

Homework 9 should be completed before Friday.  Our tutorial will go over Homework 9 and the Cholesterol essay,  Unit 1 past paper questions covering stem cells has been posted in your new REVISION folder in your class notebook.  Pupils are encouraged to do these questions in their past paper jotter before Friday.  Answers will be posted, and any help required will be offered.

There will be a live lesson on Tuesday period 6 and we will finish food production.

This week pupils will begin the work on Unit 2 Key area 5.  This will focus on Parasitism.  Pupils will learn about parasite niche and parasitic life cycles.

This week pupils will be working on consolidating their learning on limiting factors of Photosynthesis.  Pupils should have completed task 1-5 on the learning grid prior to the class tutorial on Thursday.

This Thursday The Royal Society of Chemistry will be streaming the Perseverance rover landing on Mars – LIVE from NASA’s feed (we have their approval in writing which is pretty insane. :)) – in collaboration with the UK Space Agency.

The actual landing is predicted to be at 20:55, but it can happen earlier or later – it is over 200 million miles away so who knows how accurate this prediction is!:)

The mission is searching for signs of ancient life on Mars which involves a lot of chemistry of course – including collecting and analysing samples of rock and regolith that will be coming back only in 2031.

As well as leading the search for alien life on the red planet, Perseverance will test out a new instrument, Moxie, that aims to convert the Martian air into oxygen.

Week commencing 15th February

Mr Phairs will upload a recorded video on the topic of particle accelerators onto each Class Team.

Summary Notes are to be read and relevant notes taken.

Past Paper style questions posted on Teams are to be attempted and the Quiz which will be posted later in the week to be submitted.

Mr Phairs will be hosting a different style of tutorial session on Thursday morning where he models answers to the past paper questions.

Week commencing 15th February

Both N4 and N5 level pupils should firstly watch the recorded lesson on Velocity-Time Graphs, available on the Live Lesson Team.

Relevant pages of Summary Notes should then be completed, and the problems detailed on each class Team should be completed.

A quiz will be assigned later in the week.

Mr Savage will host a live tutorial session on Thursday, detailing how we would approach past paper questions and answering any questions asked.

Well  done to the pupils who submitted their meiosis essay last week! This week pupils will begin Unit 2 Key Area 4, the lessons this week will focus on parental investment in different species.

This week pupils will start Unit 1 Cell Structure and function. Pupils should read through the Unit 1 Cell structure and function workbook and copy the notes, diagrams and tables from pages 7-10 and 17. Pupils should also read through the PowerPoint and copy the tables with the correct cell heading on slides 13, 14, 18 and 21.  There will be a live lesson periods 1 and 2 on Tuesday 16/02 where we will go over the class notes and PowerPoint for this week giving pupils a chance to take their class notes.  Pupils should also try the past paper questions on cell structure and function and the revision questions for photosynthesis.  There will be a live tutorial periods 3 and 4 on Friday 19/02 to go over all past paper questions set this week.

Homework 1 from the Unit 1 homework booklet has also been set and will be due in on Tuesday 2/03.
