Rights Respecting School

St Stephen’s Primary was awarded the Rights Respecting School Bronze Award in September 2020. The Bronze award is granted to schools that have shown a commitment to embedding children’s rights throughout its policies, practices and ethos. The UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) helps schools to use the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) to enhance daily school life and give young people the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.

At St Stephen’s Primary , pupils’ rights are pertinent to us and that is why our pupils and teachers have been working in unison to ensure the rights of our young people are recognised, carried out and valued. While also working to understand issues that children face on a global level. We have a pupil led steering group of Rights Ambassadors that meet weekly to discuss how to improve understanding and awareness of rights in the school community.

St Stephen’s Primary are currently in the process of applying for our silver award.  We believe that our work is helping us to move towards improving our pupils’ educational experiences, and to becoming a more caring and thoughtful school community.
