St. Stephen’s Primary strives to promote and raise awareness of the importance of sustainability in third world countries.
Our Fairtrade committee includes pupils from Primary1 to Primary 7. They have led the school in adopting a Fairtrade Policy which is displayed on our Fairtrade notice board, in the school gym hall. . We promote the use of Fairtrade products at whole school events including tea, coffee and fruit.
During Fairtrade Fortnight, we also ensure that Fairtrade is embedded throughout the curriculum, with pupils taking part in a wide range of themed lessons and activities.
St.Stephen’s Primary has most recently been awarded the highest possible Fairtrade award – “Fairachiever.”
The school received very positive feedback from the Fairtrade Foundation’s Assessor “It is clear to see that you have considered all the requirements of the Fair Achiever award and worked hard to incorporate this into your policy. This really shows how committed you are to raising awareness for Fairtrade at St. Stephen’s Primary School.”
This year, pupils enjoyed participating in a range of wonderful Fairtrade activities including Fairtrade tasting sessions, smoothie making using Fairtrade products, and writing persuasive letters to companies persuading them to join the Fairtrade movement. What fun!
A very big thank you to Miss Hamill, Mrs Gibson and Miss Blyth for organising such a wonderful Fairtrade day.
