We have been learning to write instructions this term as well as focusing on making our own stories interesting and exciting for others to read.  For our instructions the children made their own lemonade, shortbread and grew their own cress in class to give them a greater understanding of the steps involved.  This real life context made the writing more meaningful for them and this resulted in them being able to produce easy to follow and precise instructions.  The children were also able to write super stories about the farm having had the experience of a trip to a local farm where they could see first hand the daily routine of a farmer and gained a greater insight into how the animals are taken care of.  Some of the children have also become published writers after their fabulous winter senses poems were chosen to be included in a soon to be released book.
