Outer Space!

We have also been learning all about Space this term and this topic has really captured the children’s imagination.  The curricular areas taught through this topic include Literacy, Technology, Science, Health and Wellbeing and Art and  Design.  The children have produced a lot of creative writing throughout this topic including writing about why they would like to visit space and completing an Astronaut Application.  The stimuli used in other lessons including video clips and news reports and has inspired their imaginations and they have produced some wonderful pieces of writing.  At home the children created amazing rockets and were able to talk about their designs to the rest of the class.  They had the opportunity to investigate the diet of astronauts and how it differs from our own.  They loved having the opportunity to taste some of the snacks astronauts would eat like dried fruit and nuts.  They have also been able to explore the moon and planets using different media to create both the surface of the moon and their own solar systems.  Crumpets were used to show the craters and seas on the moon and polystyrene balls were decorated to resemble each planet.  Paper mache space helmets were also created and great fun was had trying to get them to fit!  A wonderful topic with lots of learning both in class and at home.
