Hello from Primary two

This week the children have been enjoying taking control of their play and developing their own games with our Active Play coordinators.  The activities this week involved the children participating in speed bounce and long jump games.

Forest Kindergarten

What another fantastic day the children had at forest kindergarten. The sun was shining and the children all had so much fun making sea saws, swings and climbing trees. They even had a special surprise from the Easter bunny. He had been and left eggs for all the boys and girls. How lucky are they!

Baby Chicks

We had ten eggs delivered to nursery and we now have ten baby chicks! We have two girls and eight boys. The girl chicks are darker in colour. The children have had great fun stroking the chicks and watching them grow. Primary One from Bargeddie Primary came to visit too as their project is Spring. Some children from St Kevins have been for visits also. The chicks will be returning to the farm on Thursday.

Friday 24th March

Hello from Dynamic Earth,

P5/6 and P6/7 enjoyed an exciting and educational trip to Dynamic Earth. We are all budding and enthusiastic scientists who engaged in a full day of learning about Planet Earth. We took a tour through the exhibit learning about the creation of the Earth, touching a real iceberg, seeing fossils and skeletons and experienced an earthquake reaction! It was very exciting! As well as this we finished our day in an educational workshop learning about natural disasters such as tornadoes, meteorites, tsunamis, volcanoes and earthquakes. It was fantastic! We would like to thank everyone at Dynamic Earth for a great day.

Friday, 24th March 2017

This week our Primary Three investigators began work on a very interesting science experiment.

To finish up work on our Plants and Animals topic we decided to investigate what plants need to grow healthily. In order to explore this, we decided to do three different experiments. Using broad bean seeds, we agreed upon three different variables. The first group of seeds would be given water and sunlight, the second group would be given water but no sunlight, and the third group would get sunlight but no water. We will be keeping track of our seeds every day, and have created our own diaries to record our results.

Our experiment will finish next week after the seeds have been in their different living conditions for a full 7 days. We will update you on our results at the end of next week.

We can’t wait to find out what happens!

Parents’ Night

Parents’ night was well attended on Wednesday 22nd March 2017. Parents were able to view their own child’s work, as well as being able to appreciate pupils’s art  work which was displayed in the parents’ night hall. Pupils were also eager to share a sample of their work  through talking books.

Friday 24th March 2017

Primary One were very excited to show off their fabulous work through jotters, a talking book and an art display at Parents’ Evening this week and had great fun using their organisational skills to get everything ready for this event.

They were very enthusiastic during a science investigation where they had to explain water as a solid or liquid to visiting aliens! The children enjoyed watching the ice melting and were able to accurately record the results.

Primary One visited the nursery to see chicks hatch from eggs and were very gentle and responsible when touching the chicks.

Well done to a very grown up Primary One!

Hello from Primary two

This week the children have been introduced to the concept of  division. They have been learning all about the symbols and signs associated with division language. The children have also had the opportunity of using a variety of objects to practice sharing and grouping together with ICT.

Community Police Officer Visit

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We had a fantastic visit today from Steph the local Community Police Officer. He talked to the children about Stranger Danger. He explained that if a stranger approached the children they had to firstly shout “No,No” then run to their parents and tell them what had happened. He also talked about the importance of road safety which is very relevant at the moment due to the diverted traffic. All of the children had the opportunity to see the police van, sit inside it and operate the sirens and lights. We are very appreciative to Steph for taking time to visit us during a very busy time for Police Scotland. We hope this is the beginning of a strong link between the local community police and the nursery.
