On Thurday and Friday of last week, P4/5 took part in some interesting and fun Chinese New Year activities and celebrations!
We enjoyed hearing the story of Nian the monster and how the villagers used fireworks and the colour red to scare him off. We then created our own portraits of Nian using oil pastels.
We also tried some traditional Chinese rice crackers before celebrating with fortune cookies! We were also lucky to receive a red envelope with a sweet inside, which we learned is what Chinese children get every New Year for good luck and fortune. This year’s envelope had a dog on it as it is The Year of The Dog.
To finish we created our own paper dragons to represent the ones that dance through the streets during the celebrations.
Happy Chinese New Year from all of us!
新年快乐
