Hello from Primary 6/7,

This week has been a very literacy orientated week in P6/7. we have been introduced to our new novels: Jammy Dodgers on the Run, The Wings of Ruksh and Matilda. We have enjoyed starting to read our new novels and carrying out work using our comprehension strategies.

We also met the school librarian from St Ambrose who paid us a visit to talk about the reading scheme they have implemented in the high school and how closely the English department work with the library to encourage all children to be avid readers. It was very interesting and she was able to show us a range of texts that will be available to read including interesting fiction stories to graphic novels.

To carry on our literacy theme, on Tuesday, we were lucky enough to be visited by a successful author, Matt Oldfield. He came in to talk to us about his recent publications and the children had an opportunity to ask a variety of questions such as;

What inspired you to become an author?

How long does it take you to write a book?

Does your love of football help you in writing your books?

What is your favourite author and book?

The children (especially the boys) also enjoyed quizzing Matt on his knowledge of football. The children could see they were a fantastic set of books and ones in which they were very keen to read.

This week our Primary 7 children have been finalising some of the work within their Pope Francis Faith Award journal. The children have all worked very hard and the P7 children can almost see the finish line in sight. It is a fantastic award to achieve on their transition to high school.
