Friday 24th April: Update

Good Morning Everyone!

I have really enjoyed looking at all of the pictures on Twitter of you working so hard this week. I have to say that some of the activities looked like great fun – you have certainly been very imaginative and creative!

You should all have your GLOW information and passwords now which means that you can upload your work and pictures onto the site.

Please enter the Road Safety Mascot competition – what a terrific idea for the school. You can find more information about it from Miss McMullen on Twitter.

I know that it’s Friday, the sun is shining and that we are all looking forward to the weekend!

So just before the weekend begins, let’s take a few moments to remember all of our fabulous NHS staff, all of the keyworkers, all of our wonderful staff, all of your parents and the adults who have been supporting you at home this week. We’ll also think about Fr. Campbell who has been saying Mass every day and remembering all of us in his prayers.

We also need to think about those who are ill in hospital and at home at present as well as those who have died in recent weeks.

We now need to remember all of you – our fantastic children – who have been working so hard in rather strange circumstances! Well done!

We ask God to bless each and every one of us today and to look after us all this weekend.  Together, let’s say a Hail Mary…

Hail Mary

Now! It’s Friday…the sun is shining…and you should know that when I was talking to Fr. Campbell earlier on this morning he suggested a, ‘Sneaky little extra playtime’ for all of you! What a great idea!

So boys and girls, treat yourselves to a slightly longer break this morning and don’t forget about Golden Time this afternoon. I think that you should all have an extra ten minutes – and all of the staff as well!

Stay safe this weekend – remember the sun cream and the hats!

Happy Friday Everyone!

Friday 24 April 2020

Good morning boys and girls!!  Rise and shine, I think it’s to be a lovely day and it’s Friday!! That’s our first week after the Easter holidays over.   Yesterday was a much better day than my weather app had told me.  It was actually quite sunny and not as cloudy as they had said.  Today it has to be even warmer (fingers crossed).

So before we start we will remember to say our prayers.  Let’s begin with our Morning Prayer and we will say a Hail Mary and  an Our Father.  We will take time to remember all of the people who need a little prayer and ask God to keep them and ourselves safe.

Let’s take our learning outside today!!  Remember to put on some sun screen and wear a hat.

How do you fancy some shadow drawing!!

Today we are going to base our learning around your marvellous creations.  You can use your favourite toys to make a scene like the child in the picture.  You are going to use the sunshine to trace round the shadows of your toys on paper (single sheets will do then you can join them).

Look at your drawings, now you are going to use them to write.  What will you decide to do?  An imaginative story, a newspaper report, what title will you give your piece of writing?  It’s all up to you.  I can’t wait to read them, please email or post your drawings along with your stories to SBoyce@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk or gw09boyceshirley2@glow.sch.uk or our Twitter.

If you have time remember to test yourself on this week’s words.

Thank you to the boys and girls who sent me in pictures of their work from yesterday.  Well done, I was very impressed with what you remembered about your parts of speech. 🥇

Numeracy

Today I would like you to continue with your stepping stones from yesterday.  If you haven’t given it a go, try today.  If you have chalk you might want to use that (if you are allowed).  Write the numbers 0 to 12 on the ground or on paper and test yourself on a table of your choice.  Keep a record of your time and you will be able to see how fast you can get.

Sumdog Challenge Update – Well done to all the amazing mathematicians who have completed their Sumdog Challenge.   If you can, try to finish before the deadline at 2.30 pm today.  I can see that you have been working hard on your Place Value.🥇

RE  🙏🏻

Let’s take a short time out of our day to think about what we have achieved this week.  We thank God for all the beautiful things that we can smell, hear and see whilst outside.  We can also thank God for ourselves.  Look at all the wonderful things we can do, how much we have learned in our time at school.  We are all unique and very special to God and our families, so we need to remember that and give thanks to God.

Boys and girls you have worked very hard this week and I want you to give yourselves a great big pat on the back.  You should be proud of all you have achieved and I hope you have a lovely weekend in the sunshine with your families.  Take care and I will be back again next week.

If you haven’t checked already, there is a road safety design competition starting on the school’s Twitter today.

You could also try some Spanish alphabet today.

For Health today I want you to look back over your week and make a list of the things that you have achieved. You are all dealing with big changes in the way that you live and learn and today is a great opportunity to remind yourself that you are doing well.

As you round out your week remember that you and your family can still celebrate Mass on the St. Barbara’s Facebook page.

Parents if you want to give any feedback on what we are providing please email me. I understand everyone’s home circumstances are different so we are trying to provide activities children can complete with or without adult support.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and I will be back on Wednesday! Stay safe and be kind to your family.

Good morning Super Stars 🌟

Today is Happy Friday! What makes it even better, is that, it has to be another beautiful sunny day today! Make sure you enjoy it!☀️

Let’s start by saying an Our Father and thanking God for this beautiful weather. I would also like you to say a special prayer to ask God to look after all of those brave NHS workers who are doing such an amazing job right now.🙏🏻 I was out on my doorstep last night clapping with everyone at 8pm to say a great big thank you to them and all of the other amazing key workers. Were you?👏

We know that  Friday’s are special in school because if you work hard and try your best, then you get golden time. You have already done a great job this week so far, let’s see if you can try some of today’s tasks and then you can get some golden time this afternoon. 💫

Well done boys and girls for working so hard this week and trying your best. It has been lovely receiving pictures and videos, allowing me to see all of your hard work and getting to see those smiley faces that I am missing so much. You definitely deserve to enjoy some Golden Time! 😁

Parents, thank you. Please do not worry if your child was not able to complete some activities this week. The number one priority right now is that you and your family are safe, healthy and happy. I  really appreciate all that you are doing to support your child with their school work.

I hope that you and your family have a lovely weekend.

Friday 24th April 2020

Good Morning Primary 3,

Happy Friday!!

We have had a busy week full of lots of revision. Before you do anything else give yourself a big pat on the back. You are working so hard and Miss McMullen is very proud of each and every one of you.

Before you begin your work today please take some time to say the morning prayer. Please also say a Hail Mary and Our Father for anyone who is sick at this time.

I had so much fun doing some literacy tasks in the garden that I thought you might want to give some of them a go. To begin today we are going to revise our work on nouns. Can you remember the definition of a noun?

Take a look at our poster to remind you.

Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives | Nouns, adjectives, Parts of speech ...

Now, if you are able, go outside and try to make some nouns using items from your garden. Take a look at some that I tried in my own garden by clicking the link below.

Nouns

Now lets revise our spelling words from this week and get our bodies moving at the same time.

Use the poster below and spell out your name. Now challenge yourself and spell out some of this weeks spelling words. Miss McMullen was very much out of breath after this task.

Spell Your Name Workout - What's Your Name? Fitness Activity ...

Now we should all be feeling tired so lets relax with some reading. Choose a story to read, this can be one you have at home or an ebook from Oxford Owl. Sit down, chill out and read quietly to yourself. You might choose to do this in your garden or maybe curled up on your couch. Wherever you feel you can relax.

For Numeracy today we are going to bring together some of the concepts we have been working on this week. Please click the link below to access some tasks.

Numeracy Friday

This afternoon, if you are able, go into your garden and try to make up a game to play using things you can find. Click the link below to take a look at my bowling alley using my nieces ball and bottles from my recycle bin. As you will see, I didn’t quite manage a strike.

Bowling Alley

Please ask an adults permission before using any household items or things from your garden.

Now please do not worry if there are any tasks you cannot manage. Just do what you can and take plenty of breaks. As it is Friday, finish off today by giving yourself some well deserved golden time. If you aren’t able to go outside today try some of the tasks with items you find indoors.

Please keep an eye on Twitter today to find out how you can enter our Road Safety competition.

Have a lovely day and a fantastic weekend. I hope to hear from you all soon.

Take care!

Primary 5

Friday 24 April 2020

¡Hola! ¡Buenos días chicos y chicas! ¿Qué tal?

We will start with our morning prayer.

God Our Father, as we begin our days’ work, we ask you to help us to use properly the many gifts that you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together.

St Barbara, Pray for us.

Please say a Hail Mary for all those who are sick

I hope that you are all well and looking after yourselves. Mrs Haughey has been telling me how hard you have all been working and it has been a joy to see some of your lovely healthy faces.

Here are your Friday tasks. Please only do what you can manage and don’t worry about not finishing all the tasks.

Numeracy

1. Warm up – describe the number 234202

In case you have forgotten here are some clues about the kind of things you can write:

– it is an even number
– it has 2 units
– the total of the digits =
– it is 5 more than
– it is 5 less than
– to write it in words would be …

Now let me see if you can come up with 10 ways to describe the number. You can use my clues.

2.Table challenge

Hopefully you all still have your table challenge sheets. If you don’t, don’t worry.
If you still have your sheet then continue with the table that you were working on.
If you have a brother or sister they could help to test you, if not you could FaceTime/phone your gran, grandpa, auntie or uncle and involve them. I know mums and dads are sometimes busy working.
If you can’t find your sheet, pick a table you find tricky, learn it and test yourself.

3.Statistics

You will be reading, seeing and hearing a lot about statistics on the television and in the newspapers. (See if you can spot the advert with Professor Jason Leitch and the pictogram of how we stop the spread of Covid-19 by staying at home)

Statistics are when you collect data, organise the data, understand what the data means and then present the data.

For example
If you gather information about how many pets each person in your class has, organise that information into groups and then make a graph out of the information.

Please watch this lesson and complete the questions that follow. We will only be looking at bar graphs today and you don’t need to complete the line graph questions.

Spelling

Mrs Haughey has set this week’s words:

impossible

incorrect

untidy

misbehave

imperfect

disappoint

unhappy

inaccurate

disable

Write the words on flash cards or pieces of paper. Turn the words upside down.

On another piece of paper write the numbers 1-9.

Pick a word, turn it over and write the word beside number 1. (just like our class spelling test)

Do this for each word and at the end turn all the flash cards and mark your spelling.

Remember to practise any words that you get wrong.

Health and Wellbeing

Working in a team can sometimes feel quite challenging, especially if you feel shy or if you have outspoken people in your team.

This video will help you to identify your strengths and how you feel you would fit into a team.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zbcthbk

Spanish

Continue to practise food and drink. If you watch this video (lesson 9) you will hear the boy saying some of the words that you have learned.

https://youtu.be/Lr7vcRwox2Y

I hope that you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine. Stay safe and look after yourselves.

Adiós

Mrs Goodwin 🌈 😊
