P4/3 Tuesday 28th April

Good morning everyone.  Thank you to everyone who emailed their work yesterday.  I loved reading about your characters and seeing your fabulous spelling.  Keep up the good work, I’m very proud of you all for continuing your school work as best you can under the circumstances.  Thank you parents and guardians too.

Let’s begin with our morning prayer, afterwards we will remember all those who have died:

Eternal rest grant unto them O’Lord

And let perpetual light shine upon them

May they rest in peace, Amen.

Health & Wellbeing

Have you managed to see the new Trolls film yet?  Well, we saw it at the weekend and I must say I liked how they included many types/genres of music.  My girls particularly liked Barb and the rock music.  So, I have found a great wee Go Noodle workout for you based on rock music.  You will love it, it’s a great way to wake up and start your day!  You should do it a few times to make sure you get the right moves! Enjoy!

Literacy

(20-30 mins) Continue to practise your common words today, use as many different spelling strategies as you can.  If you have chalk and it’s dry, you can go outside and write them in your garden or the pavement outside.

Ask an adult to dictate sentences to include your words.

Next, I would like to focus on presenting a news report.  If you can, I would like you to film this.

I would like you to think about the current situation, Lockdown, Coronavirus, Home schooling etc and talk briefly on how the community is coping with this.  You can interview family members about this.  Think of 3 or 4 good questions, eg. How are you feeling about this situation? What are you missing the most right now?  What are your biggest challenges home schooling your kids? (For an adult)  What are your biggest challenges participating in home schooling? ( For you)  Gather your answers and use them in your report.

Remember, to get the most information from people, you must ask open questions and not closed questions where they can only answer yes or no.

You may want to make notes beforehand so when the camera begins to roll, you know exactly what you are going to say and the questions you are going to ask.  If you do not want to be in front of the camera then you can direct someone to take your place but the information and questions etc must be your own.

Afterwards, watch it back and evaluate your performance.   What was good about it and was there anything you think you could improve upon?  How was your pace when talking, too slow/fast?  Could you understand everything you were saying?  Did you mumble? Did you use positive gestures when interviewing – good eye contact, nodding of head etc?  These are all really useful reflections for when you come to do solo talks back at school.

I would love if you could email them to me at AGraham@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk

Numeracy

A little Number Talks this morning, how many strategies can you think of to complete this sum?

37 + 47

123 + 187 (Challenge Q)

Continue to work on your times tables.  You should be familiar with 2,3,4,5 &10.  We began working on our 6 so continue to do that.

Continue to work on place value, I have attached a game for you to play which will help you.  You can choose how much you want to challenge yourself by moving from tens and units to hundreds, tens and units.  Some of you may even attempt Thousands!  Go for it!

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/place-value/place-value-charts

I have given you quite a bit of work to do with regards to your report so please don’t feel pressured to complete work from the grids also.  If you want to and you have the time, then choose one of your choice.

Happy Tuesday!

Mrs G 🙂

Primary 6 – Tuesday 28th April

Good morning Primary 6,

Our spelling words this week all contain ‘ow’ but ‘ow’ can make more than one sound.

In your jotter sort the following words into two columns

Sounding like ‘window’

clown

slow

growl, known, prowl, show, growth, scowl, clown, slow, blown, brown, throw, crown, shown, down, frown, thrown

I can see that some of you have been using the support materials on Sumdog, remember Sumdog has more than just maths games on it and I have set some spelling and grammar challenges for you too.

Here is Cressida Cowell reading chapter 15 of, “How to Train your Dragon.”

The Green Death and The Purple Death are face to face and the great battle has begun. Visualise the battle, the Green Death on one side and the Purple Death on the other. Describe their thick skin, their huge talons, their violent attacks and the effect that their enormous, thrashing bodies are having on the headland and on the boys.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar began on the evening of Thursday the 23rd of April. Ramadan remembers the month that the Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Mohammad.

For Health and Wellbeing today I would like you to identify all of the ways that you are being supported by other members of your family and how you are supporting them. Perhaps they have cleared a part of the room to be your work space or they have created a chart giving you time to work on each task. Maybe you have been doing chores around the house more regularly or helping a younger sibling with their work. You could list these things in your jotter.

Finally, here is the next episode of, Mi Vida Loca.

Please look through the power point and attempt the quiz at the end.

The Month of Ramadan

When you have completed the quiz, write a short paragraph in your jotter explaining what you know about Ramadan. You can include a picture at the end.

Lets finish off our day with some exercise. Below is my favourite go noodle video. I would like you to try it and them choose your own. Get those bodies moving!

Primary 1a 28/4/2020

Good morning, boys and girls. I hope you are all well and keeping busy.

How did you get on with your tasks yesterday? Hopefully you managed to get some of them finished.

Today, we are going to start with some exercises to waken you up!  I thought that you would enjoy another yoga session.  Today, you are going to watch and follow a programme of your choice.  Here is the link:

Remember to have some water handy.  You need to keep your body hydrated during and after exercise.

https://www.cosmickids.com/category/watch/?duration=long&changed=duration

Now that you are all wide awake, let’s get on with our literacy work.

Phonics

Our common words today are words that you already know! However, I need you to practise them so that you are an expert at writing these words.  They are:

this

that

then

with

us

so

much

of

us

now

new

out

So there are 12 words for you to practise today.

First of all I want you to write each word 3 times – just the way we do it in class!

Now, I would like you to write out each word in CAPITAL LETTERS!

Like this – THIS, THAT, THEN etc.

Great!  Now, let’s see if you can read these sentences, copy them down and put in the missing words.  Each missing word is one of the common words  we are practising today.

  1. I went to the shop ——– my mum and dad.
  2. I got a ———- toy for my birthday.
  3. There is too ——- water in that cup.
  4. I am going to the shop ——- I am going to the park.
  5. Do you want to come ——– to play with me.

How did you get on with your reading tasks yesterday? Did you manage to find lots of common words in your book ?

Today you can pick another new book.

Look at the title and the picture on the front cover of the book and see if you can tell what the book is going to be about.

Tell your mum or dad what an author does.

Now tell them what an illustrator does.

I hope you can remember! If not, they can remind you.

Now I would like you to read your book 2 or 3 times.  Remember to sound out tricky words and look at the pictures to help you.

Now, can you think of a ‘who’ question about your book?

Can you think of a ‘what’ question about your book?

Can you think of a ‘where’ question about your book?

Ask your mum or dad these questions and see if they know the answers.

You can draw a picture of your favourite character and write about what they are doing.

Time for some number work.

See the source imageBegin today again by counting and clapping to 30.

Now, count and clap from 30 to 0.

Remember to do your days, months and seasons.

We are going to do some counting and matching today so get your thinking caps on!

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/go/resource/counting-interactive-matching-activity-tg-449

Now, some addition.  This is a space invader game so you need to be quick!

https://www.arcademics.com/games/alien

R.E

Boys and girls, here is a beautiful book for you to enjoy.  When you click on the pages the book will read to you so you don’t need to read it by yourselves.

It is all about the seasons because that’s what we are learning about just now.

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/serens-seasons-ebook-t-e-1000

When we are looking at our world, it is important to remember that all the beautiful things that grow and live in our world are gifts from God.  We need to remember that God loves all of the animals, birds, fish, plants and flowers very much.  It is very important that we look after them and do everything we can to protect them.  We should be thankful for them every day.

Here is a link to one of your favourite bible stories – The Story of Creation.  I know you will enjoy it!

I hope you have a great day boys and girls.  Remember; only do what you can manage!

Take care,

Mrs Connolly.
