Our Ground Force Team

The pupils of St.Augustine’s have been very busy this week tidying our school grounds in preparation for Spring. They have made a great difference to the school. Mrs.Chisholm, Miss Ross and Mrs.O’Neil are delighted with the efforts of all the classes. Many thanks to the parent helpers who gave up their time and came along to help out. Your help is very much appreciated.

Bug Mansions

Our Eco warriors were busy at work yesterday creating a bug mansion for a wide array of creatures. It will no doubt become a great asset to the school as children will be able to explore and find out about the creatures we share our school grounds with every day. As you can see the activity had everyone involved and working together to create a fine bug mansion. Great work boys and girls!! Oh and we better not forget the teachers and parent helpers who came along to give a hand on the day.

Biodiversity

St Augustine’s are looking forward to a 2 Day Event to Launch our Biodiversity work. Lots of fun activities are planned to help children with their learning.
Pupils will be learning how living things depend on each other and also how they can play their part in caring for nature.

Create a Habitat – P1-3 will be making a Wormery, this will help the children understand what job worms do and how important they are in a garden. P4-7 will be making a Bug Mansion which will attract beneficial insects and other creatures into our garden, helping our fruit, veg and flowers to grow.

Nature Trail – Children will do some orienteering here when they have to find and explore habitats on given photographs. P1-3 will mark their findings on a hunt sheet. P4-7 will mark their finding on a birds eye view map of our school.

Species Hunt – Children will use magnifying glasses, bug catchers and our school easi scope to explore living things. They will also be learning where these living things are on a food chain.

Gardening – Thanks to our parent helpers we hope to take our gardening to the next level, this year we are going to grow a wide variety of plants, fruit and vegetables. Children will enjoy weeding planting, digging and learning how to care for plants. We will soon have our very own greenhouse and garden shed all of which will help us on our Seed to Plate and Grow Your Own Journey.
Lots to look forward to!
Look out for photos of all activities this week.

Pr.7, Room 16

Our Pr.7 pupils in Room 16 have been hard at work learning about America. Here are a few pictures of them hard at work in their co-operative learning groups working on their scripts for a holiday programme. Mrs.Docherty is now looking forward to seeing the finished product. Perhaps we have some budding presenters among our very confident individuals.

ECO/HEALTH WEEK

Our Primary 1 pupils got our Eco/Health week off to a flying start today with a clean up campaign around our school grounds. As an Eco school we encourage all children to place their litter in the bin or keep it in their pocket. However, over the winter litter has blown into our school grounds and requires the attention of all pupils to tidy up our school. We can look forward to a litter free school this week thanks to the efforts of classes involved in our clean up campaign.
