Talent Show

Our hard working Pupil Council ran a highly professional talent show on Friday afternoon that really showcased the wonderful talent we have here at St.Augustine’s Primary.  We had a wealth of talent on show, ranging from singing, dancing, gymnastic routines to musical talent being showcased.  The show was amazing with the audience enthralled with the quality of entertainment on show.  Great work Pupil Council who have worked hard over the last few weeks auditioning acts and creating a fabulous programme of talent.  Well done to all the acts who took part, you were all winners and a real credit to the school.

School Assembly News

Our excellent and hard working Junior Road Safety Officers have been working extremely hard over the last few months to create a School Travel Plan that will impact upon the health and wellbeing of the school community.  On Friday they opened the school assembly and informed everyone of their aims and how they hope to achieve them.  There were quite a few of our children who received a special commendation for their quality entries to the recent Road Safety competition.  Our school assembly also included excellent presentations by the Eco committee in regard of Switch Off Fortnight and the Global Citizens who are running a campaign in aid of Coatbridge Food Bank.  Pupils have been asked to bring in tinned and packet food for the foodbank over the next few weeks.  All donations will be gratefully received.  Here are a few pictures of a very entertaining and informative assembly.

Pr.5 visit New Lanark College

Our very lucky Pr.5 pupils set off on an adventure today when they went to New Lanark College thanks to a wonderful invitation to see the fabulous facilities and to learn about further education and some of the skills required for the world of work.  Mrs. McGlone reported that the workshops were amazing.  The children were in mixed groups with half going to the Science department and the other half visiting the dentistry department.  Then the fun began!!  The children participated in observing experiments and then carried out a few of their own in small groups with the science students – ‘burning money’ and creating their own ‘fireworks’ by spraying different chemicals on a flame to change the colour.  They even held the flame in their hand.  Poor Mrs.McGlone’s heart was in her mouth!  Many children wanted to be a scientist  after all the excitement.  After a short break the groups swapped over with the next group going to make impressions of teeth with the dentistry students and visiting dentists from China using many of the tools and state of the art technology provided in the college for students .  At the end of the session the children received certificates from the Head of the Dentistry Department and also got to take home their moulds.  Once again Mrs.McGlone noted quite a number of expressions of interest in this profession.  A huge thanks is extended to the college for a fantastic visit.  The school would like to particularly thank Mrs. Clare Flynn, Head of Faculty for facilitating such a great morning and to all the staff and students for making the morning such an  interesting, entertaining, informative and enjoyable experience.  Many thanks also to the parents who came along to help supervise.  We can’t wait to go back!!

Room 6 Coatbridge Project

WOW!!!Congratulations to the very talented pupils who worked hard to create these wonderful 3D replicas of well known Coatbridge landmarks.  They really are outstanding.  The boys and girls gave wonderful talks to their class about the landmark they had chosen to build.  They are so detailed and accurate you almost feel like you are looking at the real thing!!! Super work boys and girls and well done mums and dads because we are sure you might have been required to give a helping hand.
