Farewell Miss Thompson

Our beloved Miss Thompson retired from St.Augustine’s today after 42 years of dedicated service to our school community.  Quite an accomplishment! She has worked tirelessly to promote Gospel Values across the school and has taught thousands of children throughout her 42 years of service.  Her entire teaching career has been spent with the children of St.Augustine’s Primary and for that we are eternally grateful.   She has confessed to now teaching the children of parents and grandparents she had previously taught.  We wish Miss Thompson a very long, happy and healthy retirement and look forward to welcoming her back to the school in the not too distant future.  She will be greatly missed by everyone.

Eggtastic Fun

This afternoon the whole school joined together for our Easter Bonnet Parade and the result of our Decorated Egg Competition.  Once again the competition was fierce as there were so many outstanding Easter bonnets and terrifically decorated eggs.  Our judges had a real challenge on their hands.  Here is a slide show of the wonderful entries for our Egg Competition.

Many thanks to our team of parent helpers who joined us today for our Garden Day.  You all worked extremely hard and made a real difference to our school grounds.  We can now look forward to cultivating the plants and the vegetables that we have planted.  Today was also a day to enjoy the school grounds with a Wear Wellie Walk for Pr.1 – 3 and Fun Run for Pr. 4 – 7.  Everyone also enjoyed an Egg Hunt as part of the festivities.  Many thanks to our committees for organising these events.

Drama in Room 7

Here are a few pictures of Room 7 using freeze frames in drama to explore different characters who would have attended a gladiatorial fight – linked to their class work on  The Romans.  The class also used the drama convention of thought tracking to explore the characters and their feelings further.

Sporting Champions

Two of our Pr.6 pupils returned to school jubilant after their success at the weekend.  One pupil won 1st place in the relay at the Scottish Indoor Athletic Championships and also won a medal in the 75 metre sprint race.  Our other champion came 9th in the World Irish Dancing Championships at Killarney.  Two very talented boys.  Great work.  St.Augustine’s is very proud of both of you.

The boys and girls of Rooms 13 – 16 were treated to a museum visit with a difference today that enhanced their learning about the First and Second World Wars whilst also giving them an opportunity to handle the exhibits and learn some new and interesting facts.  Many thanks to Ian and his mobile museum.  We are sure to invite Ian back for further workshop session next year.
