The first of our First Holy Communion Services took place on Sunday with 14 wonderful children who participated fully in the service and were a real credit to their families, the school and the parish. Well done boys and girls you were all amazing. A big thank you to Father Kane, Greg McHugh the organist and also the musicians who made the service so perfect for everyone. A special thanks to the children who came along and formed our choir for the service, you were a ll stars. A big thank you is also extended to the ladies in the hall who provided a lovely Communion breakfast for the children and the tea and coffee for staff and parents.
Room 10 News
The boys and girls of Room 10 are bursting with news as they have received and extra special delivery – 9 fertilised chicken eggs. They are getting ready to hatch in side the incubator which needs to be kept at 37.7 degrees. The children have already made sure there is plenty of water inside the incubator as the eggs need a humid climate. The eggs are due to hatch on either Wednesday or Thursday so the excitement is immense. The class can’t wait to begin caring for their new additions to the class.
Pr.3 and 4 News
Our wonderful Pr. 3 and 4 pupils set off to represent the school for the first time at a Junior Cross Country event that was held last week at Coatbridge Outdoor Sports Centre. Mrs.Elder reported that the children were bursting with enthusiasm and did a wonderful job. They were so fit and healthy they wanted to run again. The visit tied in beautifully with the children’s Interdisciplinary Learning on the Olympics. Later in the week they deepened their knowldege with a visit to Tesco where they learned about the types of food from Brazil and also learned about the diets athletes and sports people need in order to prepare their bodies for competing. A truly inspirational week.

Tesco Visits
This week and last week classes have been very busy visiting Tesco as part of their Farm to Fork initiative. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and came back enthused after their trip. It was wonderful that the sun was shining to make the short walk to Tesco and most enjoyable one. Many thanks to all the parent helpers who assisted on the various visits. Your support is most appreciated.
New Entrants
Tomorrow afternoon the school community will welcome our new entrants who will begin school in August as Pr.1 pupils. The boys and girls will get the opportunity of carrying out some activities in a new learning enviroment, meeting new friends and becoming familiar with some school staff. We are delighted they are coming to join us and we look forward to August when they become St.Augustine’s pupils.
Enterprise Afterschool Club
The Enterprise Afterschool Club planted their sunflower weeds this week in preparation for the Sunflower Tea on the 3rd June. The group are also working on some art and craft activities to display at the tea. Great work boys and girls!
Science in Room 10
On Friday afternoon, Room 10 made a huge scientific discovery! Last week they carefully placed an egg in a cup of vinegar and let science take its course. As soon as the egg was dropped in the vinegar, hundreds of tiny bubbles began to appear. They found out that these bubbles are actually a gas called carbon dioxide, which is the same gas found in fizzy drinks. They left the egg for a week and made predictions of what might happen. The boys and girls couldn’t believe their eyes on Friday when they took the egg out of the cup of vinegar, the egg shell had completely disappeared!! It left behind a delicate layer of skin, called a membrane, allowing you to see into the egg! Everyone was so excited by this amazing discovery, and couldn’t wait to share their learning with the rest of the school!
