What’s Happening this Week?

Our week ahead is extremely busy with events taking place around our world of work week.  On Wednesday we have our Careers Fair for classes to visit in the afternoon.  Our exhibitors will remain in school from 3 – 4 so parents and grandparents can pop into the hall to see what we have all been up to.  Many thanks already to the parents who have responded to our request and have agreed to come along to the Careers Fair and talk about their businesses and jobs.  We are sure the children will have plenty of questions.  On Thursday we welcome our new entrants to the school for the first of their Induction afternoons.  We are all looking forward to welcomng both children and parents to our community of faith and learning.

Lots of great discussions with  Miss Lester reporting that the children were totally engaged in their learning!! The pictures speak for themselves!

Open Afternoon/Art Exhibition

Today we hosted our annual Open Afternoon and invited parents and grandparents to join classes and to experience the learning taking place across the school.  Parents reported they enjoyed the opportunity to visit their child’s class and to see them in their learning environment.  The parents with more than one child at the school had a busier afternoon than most as they had several classes to visit and more than one child to keep happy! Our Art exhibition was a great success with 50% of the artwork bought already.  Parents have until the 18th May to purchase their child’s work if they wish.  Please contact the school office to arrange if wishing to make a purchase. Above are a few highlights of the afternoon.

Zoo Man visits Pr.1 and 2

Primary one/two had an exciting visitor last week from Dave the Zoo man. He brought along many of his animal friends including; rabbits, Guinea pigs, spiders, snakes, mice, rats, lizards, a duck and a chicken!!

The animals had some interesting names too; the chicken was called ‘Nugget’, the spider, ‘Incy Wincy’, the duck was called ‘Peking’ and the rat was called ‘Asbo’.

Primary one/two had great fun learning about Pets and how to care for them, they learned lots of interesting things that they didn’t know about Pets!

Some children were very brave and held the animals, some even put the snake around their necks. They all had a fantastic morning!

Have a look at our exciting photos!

Room 3 News

Room 3 have been busy this week learning about ‘Weight’ and how important this is in their lives. We discussed the importance of weighing ingredients in our school kitchen and our kitchens at home, weighing sweets at the sweet shop and we looked at different types of scales and their dials.

We also discussed the importance of the weight of our luggage when flying on an aeroplane.

We weighed some fruit and vegetables as a Greengrocer would do and spoke about the machines that weigh our shopping at the supermarkets.
Finally, we discussed how nurses and midwifes weigh babies and even how we may weigh ourselves!

We then weighed some on the tiny animals in our own class Vets surgery, and used the food from our Pet Shop to compare heavier and lighter items of pet food.

We used the Smartboard to weigh the parcels and type in the weight on the scales.

Have a look at our learning in pictures.
