Confirmation Preparation

The boys and girls of Primary 6 and 7 have been working hard in preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation that takes place on Monday 26th February at St Augustine’s Church.  We would like to thank Father Kane for all his support in preparation for this important event.

Confirmandi children were issued with a letter today from Father Kane to confirm arrangements for Monday.  We would ask children be seated by 6.30pm for the service which is due to  commence at 7pm.  Sponsors should make themselves known to staff and will be directed to their reserved seating.

Seating will be reserved for candidates and their sponsors only.  Parents and other family members are asked to choose seating outwith the reserved areas.

Children are asked to wear full school uniform on the night and refrain from wearing cardigans or jumpers and should remove their jackets.  Please ensure everyone wears white school shirt and tie.

At the appropriate time during mass each sponsor should place his/her right hand on the candidates right shoulder.

Thank you very much for your support in preparing your child for this event.

STEM Lava Lamps in P6/7 and P7

The first floor was a hive of activity this afternoon as the children carried out a science expiriment to see what would happen when water, oil, food colouring and effervescent tablets are mixed together.  We made predictions and evaluated the results.

During this activity we learned that water and oil do not mix because of something called intermolecular polarity.  Some fantastic cooperative learning on display. Here are some pictures to share our learning.

Rag Bag Appeal – Collection 2nd March

Today our Eco committee issued all children with a bag for the Rag Bag Appeal. We are helping raise awareness of textile recycling within our school community.

We are hoping you will all have a clear out and help us collect unwanted wearable clothing, paired shoes, handbags and belts which will be exported to Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. We cannot accept uniforms, workwear or household items such as bedding, towels etc.

Any suitable donations, no matter how small should be placed in the bag and be dropped off at the school before 2nd March please.

Thank you in advance for supporting this event. Should you require additional bags please contact Mrs Drummond or the office.

Lent

Lent is a preparation for Easter.  Throughout Lent we aim to grow closer to God and to profess our faith through acts of kindness and love.  We do this through prayer, fasting and almsgiving.  During Lent we encourage as many of our pupils to attend the daily Mass at 8.00am in St.Augustine’s Church.  Breakfast will be provided in school (or children may bring their own) for those children who have made an extraordinary effort to attend this early morning service.

What’s on this Week?

Last week might have been a short school week but a great deal was packed into our two days.  Pr. 2 pupils from Room 3 visited Coatbridge Library, we had a visit from the HOPE team to raise awareness about Autistic Spectrum, Pr. 6 and 7 visited the church in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation and staff from St.Ambrose High School visited Pr.7 as part of their ongoing transition work.  Our afterschool clubs ran last week with Parkour, Cross Country and Dance with all clubs running at capacity.

The week ahead remains as busy as ever with Pr.6 and 7 preparing for their Confirmation which will take place on Mon. 26th Feb.  Please note pictures of all pupils have been placed in church with a request for prayers partners for our Confirmandi pupils.
