What’s on this Week?
Our week ahead is a busy one and also a very important one for St.Augustine’s School. We pray for our Pr. 6 and 7 pupils who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Monday evening. This week we also share our ongoing improvement agenda with HMI who will visit the school on Wednesday and Thursday. We hope they will be suitably impressed with all the great work that is taking place across the school. A glimpse through our school blog gives a flavour of all the wonderful learning opportunities that are provided for all and reflects the many achievements of St.Augustine’s pupils both in school and beyond. We are proud of our school and we hope HMI will agree with us that our improvement agenda is impacting positively upon all our children.

Solo Talks in P2
Rooms 3 and 4 were demonstrating that they are already confident individuals by giving talks to their class on a Scottish Landmark of their choice. The research was amazing and they presented the facts clearly to the class audience, with good eye contact and engaging visuals. Of course the class audience listened perfectly and they learned lots from each other. Wow! We are so impressed.
Budding Authors in Primary 2
Pupils in P2 have been extremely busy writing their own books for Literacy Week. Our little budding authors were helped by their P7 buddies who edited their stories and helped them spell some tricky words. Lots of encouragement was given to get all their ideas down on paper. Next step publishing! We can’t wait to read them!
Clyde in the Classroom
P7 children went to visit P5 today to hear all about the Brown Trout the children have been studying in their classroom. It was wonderful of P5 to share their learning so successfully. Their knowledge was superb. Thank you for letting us visit and for answering all of our questions boys and girls.
P7 Credit Union
Some of our P7 children were processing savings for the credit union today. Please remember collection is every Friday for anyone who has opened an account. If you are interested in opening an account please ask Mrs Drummond for an application form.
Watch out, Bugs about!
Our new bug hotel has been installed in the front garden. We are hoping lots of interesting residents move in to help our science studies. Look out for our investigation pictures.
Cross Country Qualifiers
Cross country PicsWell done to the children who attended the Cross Country Qualifiers earlier this week to represent our school. Some excellent team spirit on show boys and girls and wonderful results. We are very proud of your efforts.
Confirmation Preparation
The boys and girls of Primary 6 and 7 have been working hard in preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation that takes place on Monday 26th February at St Augustine’s Church. We would like to thank Father Kane for all his support in preparation for this important event.
Confirmandi children were issued with a letter today from Father Kane to confirm arrangements for Monday. We would ask children be seated by 6.30pm for the service which is due to commence at 7pm. Sponsors should make themselves known to staff and will be directed to their reserved seating.
Seating will be reserved for candidates and their sponsors only. Parents and other family members are asked to choose seating outwith the reserved areas.
Children are asked to wear full school uniform on the night and refrain from wearing cardigans or jumpers and should remove their jackets. Please ensure everyone wears white school shirt and tie.
At the appropriate time during mass each sponsor should place his/her right hand on the candidates right shoulder.
Thank you very much for your support in preparing your child for this event.
STEM Lava Lamps in P6/7 and P7
The first floor was a hive of activity this afternoon as the children carried out a science expiriment to see what would happen when water, oil, food colouring and effervescent tablets are mixed together. We made predictions and evaluated the results.
During this activity we learned that water and oil do not mix because of something called intermolecular polarity. Some fantastic cooperative learning on display. Here are some pictures to share our learning.
