Classes this week were incredibly busy as they set off on a species hunt around school grounds. Children worked in teams and discussed what they had found and learned about habitats and food chains. Our Eco week was a fabulous success with children reporting that they enjoyed the varied activities. Many thanks to the teachers who worked so hard to make the week such a success.

Creating a Wormery and out and about on our Nature Trail
Our Eco activities have been very extensive this week with lots of work taking place around promoting biodiversity within our school and ensuring our pupils know more about their local environment. Please check out our picture gallery the shows our children in the outdoor classroom.
Bug Mansions
Our Eco warriors were busy at work yesterday creating a bug mansion for a wide array of creatures. It will no doubt become a great asset to the school as children will be able to explore and find out about the creatures we share our school grounds with every day. As you can see the activity had everyone involved and working together to create a fine bug mansion. Great work boys and girls!! Oh and we better not forget the teachers and parent helpers who came along to give a hand on the day.
Biodiversity
St Augustine’s are looking forward to a 2 Day Event to Launch our Biodiversity work. Lots of fun activities are planned to help children with their learning.
Pupils will be learning how living things depend on each other and also how they can play their part in caring for nature.
Create a Habitat – P1-3 will be making a Wormery, this will help the children understand what job worms do and how important they are in a garden. P4-7 will be making a Bug Mansion which will attract beneficial insects and other creatures into our garden, helping our fruit, veg and flowers to grow.
Nature Trail – Children will do some orienteering here when they have to find and explore habitats on given photographs. P1-3 will mark their findings on a hunt sheet. P4-7 will mark their finding on a birds eye view map of our school.
Species Hunt – Children will use magnifying glasses, bug catchers and our school easi scope to explore living things. They will also be learning where these living things are on a food chain.
Gardening – Thanks to our parent helpers we hope to take our gardening to the next level, this year we are going to grow a wide variety of plants, fruit and vegetables. Children will enjoy weeding planting, digging and learning how to care for plants. We will soon have our very own greenhouse and garden shed all of which will help us on our Seed to Plate and Grow Your Own Journey.
Lots to look forward to!
Look out for photos of all activities this week.
Movie Night
Cogratulations to Mrs.Allison and the Global Citizens for the fantastic Movie Night in aid of our Lenten Charities. It raised the outstanding sum of £600. Marvellous!

Movie Night Fun
Thanks to Mrs.Allison and her Global Citizens the whole school enjoyed a Movie Night on Friday evening to raise money for charity. The school hall was packed with children dressed in onesies settling down for the evening to watch a movie with their friends. We look forward to pupil feedback to see how we could further improve this type of event for the future. Many thanks to the many parents who came along to help supervise on the night. Their support and help was much appreciated.
Easter Fun Day – 24th March
Bike Sheds at Last!!
St.Augustine’s is delighted to announce that it will that at last have bike/scooter racks and a bike shed for securely storing bikes. This will hopefully encourage our children to travel to school on their bikes or scooters safe in the knowledge that they have somewhere safe to store them when they arrive at school. As an Eco school we want to promote a healthier lifestyle and encourage all of our children to walk or cycle to school. Here are a few pictures of our Pr.1 pupils who went out to investigate what the workmen were up to today.
