Marshmallow Snowmen

The highly industrious pupils of Room 10 have been very busy on the production line making terrific snowmen marshmallows for selling at our Christmas Fair on Saturday.  The sweet smell of soft mallows was mouthwatering as you walked up stairs and headed to a room full of activity.  The finished products look fantastic and are sure to sell out quickly!!!

The Week Ahead

Our school week has got off to a busy start as always with classes creating products for the school fair during the last week of our Enterprise Fortnight.  The school office has been busy all day with pupils making requests to display posters around the school and to talk about the products they will selling at the fair on Saturday.  This afternoon Room 9 had a visit from the outreach team at Summerlee Heritiage Museum as part of their class studies on Scotland.  We look forward to their pictures of the workshop.

On Tuesday to celebrate Scottish Book Week the whole school will welcome celebrated children’s author Stuart Reid who will deliver an author talk for Pr.1 -3 then a talk for Pr.4 – 7.  The morning is sure to be eventful, funny and memorable for everyone.  In the afternoon our Pr.7 pupils will benefit from a creative writing workshop led by Stuart.  Room 8 pupils will also receive a visit from Summerlee Heritiage Museum as part of their studies on Scotland.

On Wednesday Pr. 1- 3 will gather for their midweek assembly followed by Pr4 – 7’s assembly.  This is a great opportunity to celebrate pupil success and achievement.  We have also been learning some new hymns in preparation for the service onSt.Andrew’s Day.  In the evening the school our Parent Council will meet at 6.00pm and out P.T.A. will meet at 7.15pm.  The P.T.A. would like as many members as possible to attend in order to confirm arrangements for the fair on Saturday.

On Thursday Mrs.Docherty will be out of school to attend a conference on Self-Improving Schools.

On Friday the whole school will gather for an assembly where they will share their learning and the great products they will be selling at the fair.  Later on in the day it will be all systems go as classes bring down their products for selling at the fair. All stalls will be set up in the afternoon in preparation for the Christmas Fair on Saturday morning.

On Saturday our Christmas fair will commence at 10am.  We have a very important visitor on the day so make sure you have written your Christmas list well in advance!!

Sportshall Athletics

Some of our Pr. 6 and 7 pupils represented the school at a sportshall athletics event at Airdrie Leisure Centre on Friday. This was a highly competitive event to qualify for the NL finals.  Our fingers are crossed that our group of athletes have scored high enough.  They are to be commended for their great effort and determination on the day.  Fantastic work boys and girls.

Dana comes to school

International singing star and Eurovision Song Winner Dana joined us this morning for a school assembly.  She sang to the children and had the whole school join in with her song to Our Lord.  It was both beautiful and memorable.  Some of our children also entertained Dana and her husband Damien with a few Scottish songs.  This went down a treat as Dana had shared that she had quite a bit of scottish ancestry.  As Dana left she marvelled at the 3D models on display in the foyer that represented the landmarks of Coatbridge.  Dana didn’t need a tour round Coatbridge it was all on display in the school foyer.

Award Winners

Once again the school was delighted to see a collection of superstarts being awarded Pupil of the Week Awards, Marevellous Manner Awards and Good Citizen Awards.  It is great to see our children being recognised for their excellent effort in school.  Well done boys and girls!!

Well done St.Aug’s Football Team

Our fabulous football team took part in another thrilling game at St.Ambrose.  Yesterday they played against Greenhill and were very disappointed that the final score was 6-5 to Greenhill.  They had a chance to make it even in the dying minutes of the game but it was not to be.  The boys have been excellent ambassadors for the school and shown great talent and sportsmanship in all their ties which is great to see.  We are confident they will be successful in their next match.  Keep up the great work boys!!!

Congratulations

Congratulations is the order of the day for one of  our very talented Pr. 7 pupils .  Leah Ward has become a finalist in The Advertiser Short Story competition.  Out of hundreds of entries from across Coatbridge and Airdrie we are delighted and very proud that one of our pupils has made it to the  short list. We look forward to hearing how she gets on in the next edition of  our local paper . We’ll done Leah!!
