Celebrating Success

At our assembly this morning for Pr. 5 – 7 there was a focus on the success of our Sportshall Athletes who came in first place for the Coatbridge finals.  We have now successfully qualified for the North Lanarkshire finals which are due to be held in Ravenscraig where we will be competing with the other finalists from across the authority.  We also celebrated the success of one of our violinist who recently passed her music grading.  We were also joined by a pupil who dedicates each Friday to attending practices with the North Lanarkshire Preparatory Band.  She will soon perform in The Royal Concert Hall.  Well done boys and girls and congratulations t all pupils who received a certificate in recognition of their efforts.

Launch of Anti-Bullying Week

This week there will be a whole school focus as it is Anti-Bullying Week.  This year’s theme is All Different, All Equal. At our assembly this morning we talked about why our school is unique and what makes us so special.  Everyone recognized that we are all different and have different interests and talents that all contribute to making us unique.  Celebrating our differences is important and we should ensure that everyone is treated with respect as we are all equal.  This will be the focus of work taking place in classes across the school this week.  At our assembly this morning PC Anneka joined us to talk about bullying behaviour, what it is, what impact it has on individuals and what we can do about it.  Learning to be tolerant of others and showing kindness and understanding will go a long way to ensuring all children feel equal and that the things that make us different are something to be celebrated.  Let’s hope this message is heard by everyone in our school community this week.

The boys and girls of Room 13 and 16 presented their Titanic showcase in the gym hall this afternoon in full period costume.  They put together a full presentation that gave lots of interesting facts about the building of the Titanic and the disaster.  They complimented their presentation with drama, dance and music.  Well done boys and girls, you were truly wonderful despite a very dodgy microphone! Room 15 pupils hosted their showcase event in their class and put a lot of pressure on parents to answer their quiz questions.  The powerpoints and presentation skills on display were excellent. Fantastic work boys and girls, a real showcase of all the talent here at St.Augustine’s Primary.
