Corpus Christi Procession
A reminder that all Pr. 4 pupils who recently received their First Holy Communion are invited to attend the Corpus Chrisi Procession that will proceed from the Church Hall to the Church on Sunday afternoon at 4.00pm. All children are invited to attend in their First Communion clothes. We look forward to seeing you there.
CHICK NEWS
We now have seven healthy baby chicks! Matty, Bobby and Humphrey, are all enjoying living in the brooder box. On Thursday, the children cleaned out the brooder box for the first time while the chicks played in the paddling pool. Everyone also got to hold the chicks for the first time which was so exciting! We could not believe how soft they are, and they just fall asleep in your hands. Augustine also made a guest appearance at assembly on Thursday, Mrs Docherty proudly showed him off!
On Friday morning we noticed how quickly the chicks are growing, they are looking much fluffier and they each have their own personality. Kaka is definitely the leader of the group and likes to boss the other chicks around! For taught writing today, Aedan and Dominic demonstrated how to clean a brooder box, and then the boys and girls wrote up a list of instructions. They made sure the instructions were clear enough for anyone to follow – so maybe Mrs Docherty will be cleaning them next week!! Room 10 loved golden time today, and spent the whole time playing and cuddling the chicks. We have also had visitors from across the school who have been very excited to meet and hold the chicks.
At the weekend, Miss Lester looked after the chicks at home. She promises to keep everyone informed with updates and pictures!
Room 8 News
As part of our Health Week Room 8 were busy making fresh fruit kebabs. In the afternoon they visited the ICT suite to link their learning in Health and Wellbeing as they used an ICT programme called Splosh to paint their own kebabs. The kebabs look absolutely delicious!
Chick News
Room 10 have some amazing news to share! When the boys and girls arrived at school this morning, two tiny chicks had hatched. A boy and a girl, called Kaka and Dougal. We are able to identify the gender of the chicks because the boys have yellow feathers, and the girls have brown feathers. Everyone was over the moon and so excited!! Children from across the school came to visit our two new additions. Later on in the day, Room 10
boys and girls witnessed something incredible, as two more eggs hatched right in front of their eyes!! Another boy and girl, called Augustine and Pipper. Kaka and Dougal have now fluffed up and are enjoying living in their brooder box, Pipper and Augustine will join them tomorrow morning. The boys and girls have also began caring for our new arrivals by making sure they have plenty of water to drink. They do not need fed within the first day of being hatched, as they are using up all the nutrients and vitamins from the egg yolk. The whole school is absolutely delighted with the new arrivals, and we can’t wait to meet the rest of the chicks!!
Health Week
Our Health Week is well underway with children enjoying orienteering, Tesco food tasting and cooking. Here are a few pictures that capture the week so far!!
First Communion
The first of our First Holy Communion Services took place on Sunday with 14 wonderful children who participated fully in the service and were a real credit to their families, the school and the parish. Well done boys and girls you were all amazing. A big thank you to Father Kane, Greg McHugh the organist and also the musicians who made the service so perfect for everyone. A special thanks to the children who came along and formed our choir for the service, you were a ll stars. A big thank you is also extended to the ladies in the hall who provided a lovely Communion breakfast for the children and the tea and coffee for staff and parents.
Room 10 News
The boys and girls of Room 10 are bursting with news as they have received and extra special delivery – 9 fertilised chicken eggs. They are getting ready to hatch in side the incubator which needs to be kept at 37.7 degrees. The children have already made sure there is plenty of water inside the incubator as the eggs need a humid climate. The eggs are due to hatch on either Wednesday or Thursday so the excitement is immense. The class can’t wait to begin caring for their new additions to the class.
Pr.3 and 4 News
Our wonderful Pr. 3 and 4 pupils set off to represent the school for the first time at a Junior Cross Country event that was held last week at Coatbridge Outdoor Sports Centre. Mrs.Elder reported that the children were bursting with enthusiasm and did a wonderful job. They were so fit and healthy they wanted to run again. The visit tied in beautifully with the children’s Interdisciplinary Learning on the Olympics. Later in the week they deepened their knowldege with a visit to Tesco where they learned about the types of food from Brazil and also learned about the diets athletes and sports people need in order to prepare their bodies for competing. A truly inspirational week.
Science in Room 10
On Friday afternoon, Room 10 made a huge scientific discovery! Last week they carefully placed an egg in a cup of vinegar and let science take its course. As soon as the egg was dropped in the vinegar, hundreds of tiny bubbles began to appear. They found out that these bubbles are actually a gas called carbon dioxide, which is the same gas found in fizzy drinks. They left the egg for a week and made predictions of what might happen. The boys and girls couldn’t believe their eyes on Friday when they took the egg out of the cup of vinegar, the egg shell had completely disappeared!! It left behind a delicate layer of skin, called a membrane, allowing you to see into the egg! Everyone was so excited by this amazing discovery, and couldn’t wait to share their learning with the rest of the school!
