The school was delighted to welcome a local author who came along to meet with Pr.7 to launch her first novel. Jane Burns is a local woman who has set her book in Coatbridge and in particular features Summerlee. Her book is titled ‘My Sister’s My Teacher’. We look forward to welcoming Jane back to the school to carry out some creative writing workshops and also to speak with our great readers in Pr.6.

Room 3 Celebrate Literacy Week
Primary 1/2 had many visitors this week, who helped us celebrate Literacy Week.
Mrs Rankin from our school office, Melanie a school visitor, Mrs Hutchinson from Coatbridge College and some of our parents and grandparents joined us to share lots of our favourite stories together.
Pr.1/2 also wrote their own book about one of their favourite traditional tales, Jack and the Beanstalk.
Cross Country
Congratulatins to our Cross Country runners who did such a wonderful job representing the school. We are dleighted that we have quite a few children representing the school at the North Lanarkshire Finals on the 14th March. Fantastic work boys and girls!!
Readathon
Our Pyjama themed Readathon was a great success today with the hall busy all day with children settling down to read for enjoyment. We also had a Crazy Hair Day for our Lenten Charity as part of our planned Thrilling Thursdays so the school was a strage place today! A great day was had by all, we hope the Read to Succeed message has got across to everyone this week.

Our Literacy Assembly for the pupils and parents of Pr.1 – 3 will take place on Friday 3rd March at 11.15am. Children are asked to dress up as a character from fiction for this event. Children can dress up across the school tomorrow to celebrate our Literacy Week.
School Blog
Our school blog will continue to update in regard of school news and what is up and coming in school. However we are unable , at the moment, to upload photographs that fully reflect the life of our school. When this issue has been resolved we will provide a gallery of pictures reflecting our Literacy Week and School Celebrations for our Golden Jubilee.
Newsletter
Please note an electronic copy of the newsletter for March/April is available on the drop down menu on our school blog. A paper copy will be issued today. Apologies we could not get it out earlier but our printer has not been working.

Literacy Dress Up Assembly for Pr. 1 – 3, parents are invited to attend, takes place on Friday 11.15am.
What’s Happening this Week
Our week ahead is action packed with all classes involved in our Literacy Week Celebrations. All classes have been busy completing the writing of their own books and will be involved in reading for enjoyment throughout the school week. The Book Fair is in the school all week with plenty of opportunity to buy a new book. All classes have also been extremely busy preparing for our forthcoming school concert to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. It has been a real treat to take a trip down memory lane. Tickets for our concert will go on sale this week.
