Here are some photos of the children in Room 6 enjoying Literacy Week activities. The pupils created a story board for their very own Fairytale. Having explored the key features of Traditional Tales, they were given the choice of retelling a favourite one in their own words or creating an imaginative storyline. They worked wth partners to asess, proof read and check each others’ work. They watched Francesca Simon, the author of the Horrid Henry stories, on line and listened to her inspiration, ideas and how she works closely with her illustrator -Tony Ross to create a first draft, then a second before it is sent to the publishers. The class then redrafted and illustrated their stories. Next it was time to design a front cover and think about a brief “blurb” for the back. When they were happy with their work it was sent to the publishers i.e. the Classroom Assistants! Who busily and carefully put the books together. The children are now looking forward to sharing them with their audience.
Also during the week the pupils Pair Read, went on a Word Scavenger Hunt, took part in the School Readathon in their PJs, listened to a Storyteller and watched a DVD of Matilda by Roald Dahl. They were heard saying they “had the best time ever”.
We are looking forward to dressing as story characters and presenting with school friends at the Literacy Assembly to round off a fab week. Truly inspiring!

World Book Day
Our pyjama themed readathon takes places tomorrow so please remind childre to bring along pyjamas, cushion, blanket and BOOK for the readathon. In the afternoon, as part of our Lenten charities our pyjama day continues as children enjoy a movie inspired by a famous children’s novel/book. Friday is dress up as acharacter from fiction day. Please ensure that children bring their costumes along to school as they can change into them after we have attended First Friday Mass. Our Literacy Assembly for pupils and parents of Pr.1 – 3 takes place at 2.00pm.
Fairtrade Tuckshop
Here are some pictures of our Fairtrade Tuckshop. A successful start with lots of hard work and effort from the Global Citizens Committee. Sending a big thank you to all who are supporting this project through buying and selling. It is very much appreciated. Please remember to bring money on Friday and also days allocated next week.
Room 3 Castles
The boys and girls have been highly creative and put their design and technology skills to great use as they constructed their own castles using a variety of containers and objects. They put their knowledge of 3D shape to could use whilst also reusing and recycling. Great team work boys and girls!!
Room 12 Amazing Authors
Room 12 were delighted to receive their World Book Day tokens in time for the Book Fair. They have been engaged in the creation of their own novels and have written a variety of genres from Sci-fi, Spy and Rainforest Adventures. This week they were involved in illustrating their book covers, producing a blurb and editing and redrafting their stories through collaboration with others. Looking forward to the scheduled activities for the rest of the week.
Cooking Club
Miss Lester and Miss Burns cooking club was a hive of activity this afternoon as the group made breadsticks. Great team work is clearly on show!

Room 10 Vikings!!
The boys and girls of Room 10 have been very busy this term learning all about the Vikings. Their homework project set a challenge that involved designing and creating a model Viking longship. As you can see they took up the challenge and were desperate to share their work with the pupils of Room 12. Great work boys and girls!!
Confirmation
Many thanks to one of our parents, Mrs.Robb, who captured this lovely moment at the end of the Confirmation service on Thursday evening. It was a very impromptu moment but illustrates the joy everyone was feeling after such a beautiful service.
Primary 1 Amazing Authors
Primary 1 have been very busy in class working with their Pr.7 buddies to write and illustrate our own books. They made a plan for their story with their buddy and designed their own front cover, then they got to work writing their own stories. They will soon be finished and ready to share with friends, family and visitors. As part of Literacy Fortnight the class also had some visitors who came along to read their favourite stories. This included Mrs.Redmond, Mrs.Connolly and Mrs. Rankin. In class Pr.1 have had lots of opportunity to listen to stories and will be logging onto Live Literature to hear some well known authors talk about their books. The boys and girls are looking forward to World Book Day and their pyjama themed readathon and to the Literacy Assembly on Friday when they can dress up as a character from fiction. Their big evidence books will have a record of all that they have been involved with to celebrate the world of books.
