Primary one/two had an exciting visitor last week from Dave the Zoo man. He brought along many of his animal friends including; rabbits, Guinea pigs, spiders, snakes, mice, rats, lizards, a duck and a chicken!!
The animals had some interesting names too; the chicken was called ‘Nugget’, the spider, ‘Incy Wincy’, the duck was called ‘Peking’ and the rat was called ‘Asbo’.
Primary one/two had great fun learning about Pets and how to care for them, they learned lots of interesting things that they didn’t know about Pets!
Some children were very brave and held the animals, some even put the snake around their necks. They all had a fantastic morning!
Have a look at our exciting photos!
Miss Burns had a few pictures she wanted to share from the climbing activity she shared with some of our wonderful Pr.7 last week.
Room 3 have been busy this week learning about ‘Weight’ and how important this is in their lives. We discussed the importance of weighing ingredients in our school kitchen and our kitchens at home, weighing sweets at the sweet shop and we looked at different types of scales and their dials.
We also discussed the importance of the weight of our luggage when flying on an aeroplane.
We weighed some fruit and vegetables as a Greengrocer would do and spoke about the machines that weigh our shopping at the supermarkets.
Finally, we discussed how nurses and midwifes weigh babies and even how we may weigh ourselves!
We then weighed some on the tiny animals in our own class Vets surgery, and used the food from our Pet Shop to compare heavier and lighter items of pet food.
We used the Smartboard to weigh the parcels and type in the weight on the scales.
Have a look at our learning in pictures.
The eco committee have been busy planning their next areas of action. They have agreed litter needs to be a focus as well as greater recycling across the school. At their next meeting they are going to plant seeds to make our garden look nice and hopefully transfer some of the plants we grow to the community orchard.
The children of St.Augustine’s School really know how to have a good time!!! Everyone was up dancing and there was much mingling with the boys and girls of St.Kevin’s, St.Stephen’s and St.Bartholomew’s. Lots of new friends were made this week. We aim to be away for 10.30 tomorrow morning, as soon as cases are packed, rooms cleared and all discarded clothing claimed!!!!! The boys and girls have been amazng all week and the instructors really could not have praised them highly enough. They have been a pleasure all week and a real credit to their parents and the school. Here is our final slideshow from our week in Kilbowie. Instructors also took pictures on some activities, we will post them later when we get a chance to look through them. Hope you have enjoyed the slideshows and you haven’t missed your wee one too much!!
Some of our groups round the centre this morning got do ski-ing, navigation and safari. See if you can spot who decided to be camera shy?
Tonight we went down to Oban to visit McCaig’s Tower and to get a chippie!!!. We are looking forward to our last day of activities and tomorrow evening’s disco!
