The wonderful children of Room 1 and 2 have been learning about weight and carried out a number of activities last week to help them develop an understanding of heavy and light and also the need to weigh in a real life context. They baked cakes last week and had to weigh their ingredients before mixing and then baking in the oven. Oh and they had a lovely time eating them too. Later on in the week they also wrote instructions about how to bake a cake. No excuse not to bake at home now as we have plenty of Mary Berrys and Paul Hollywoods (Great British Bake Off)!!

Rabbie Burns Event
Our pupils of Room 13,14,15 and 16 entertained parents and grandparents to a collection of poetry recitals and song as we celebrated Burns Day. Our visitors were also delighted to tuck into a lovely plate of haggis, neeps and tatties thanks to our wonderful catering staff. Our raffle and donations also raised money for our partner St. Andrew’s Hospice. A wonderful afternoon was had by all with all visitors passing their compliments to the kitchen staff, teachers and especially the children. Many thanks to Mr.William Devoy who joined us from the Burns Society.

As promised and with thanks to Mrs.Robb who went along as a parent helper to cheer on our team of superstars we have a few pictures of our star team. Well done to you all!!!
The Week Ahead
Our week ahead is as busy as ever with children enjoying the challenge of new Interdisciplinary Projects. Children have reviewed what they already know, what they would like to find out and how they intend to do this and share their learning. Please look for the ‘What’s Happening in my Child’s Class?’ information sheet which will be issued this week.
Mrs.Docherty has quite a few important visitors to the school this week who will be reviewing the school budget, reviewing current attainment data and reviewing the schools progress to date. These visitors will provide some assistance in regard of the schools ongoing improvement agenda.
This week we continue with our review of teaching and learning with Mrs.Docherty and Mrs.Elliott visiting classes and also reviewing pupil work. We aim to discuss with children their learning and what they regard as their next steps in order to maintain progress and achievement.

Sportshall Athletics
Our athletes left the school today to take part in the finals at Ravenscraig. The competition involved all the finalists from across the authority. We are delighted that they put on a great display and represented the school so well in such a highly competitive event. We will be in a position to post some photographs of the event next week. Well done boys and girls you were wonderful and a real credit to the school!!
Medal Winning Gymnasts
The school is absolutely delighted that our first attendance at the NL Championship resulted in a medal haul!!! One of our teams won gold and we also have several gold, silver and bronze individual medal winners. Impressive stuff!! They won’t be going to Rio for the Olympics but give it a few more years and we could be looking at a future Commonwealth or Olympic Champion.
St.Augustine’s Gymnasts in Action
The school could not be more proud of our fantastic gymnasts who attended the NL Championships being held at Airdrie Academy this morning. Agile, graceful and poised they did a wonderful job of showing off their abundant talent. Great work boys and girls. We are all looking forward to the next event. Below is a slide show that highlights the morning event.
Pupil of the Week Awards
Congratulations to our Pupil of the Week Award winners, to our Marvellous Manners and also our Good Citizen Award winners. They are really presenting themselves as excellent ambassadors of the school. This week our assembly featured a talk about how we can put our faith into action. Our Good Citizen Award winners demonstrate that in how they think of others everyday. Well done boys and girls!
Room 6 News
The boys and girls of Room 6 were highly creative today as they designed and made their own ear muffs. A handy thing to make in this cold and chilly weather. Hopefully the boys and girls will do a fashion show for us next week at our assembly.
Good Luck
The school has quite a few children setting off tomorrow to represent the school at two sporting events. We have a large group of Pr.6 and 7 pupils attending the Sportshall Athletics at Ravenscraig and a large group of talented gymnasts heading off to Airdrie Academy to compete at the NL Championships. It is all very exciting. We wish all our athletes and gymnasts every success tomorrow. They are already winners in our eyes!!
