The school is absolutely delighted that our first attendance at the NL Championship resulted in a medal haul!!! One of our teams won gold and we also have several gold, silver and bronze individual medal winners. Impressive stuff!! They won’t be going to Rio for the Olympics but give it a few more years and we could be looking at a future Commonwealth or Olympic Champion.

St.Augustine’s Gymnasts in Action
The school could not be more proud of our fantastic gymnasts who attended the NL Championships being held at Airdrie Academy this morning. Agile, graceful and poised they did a wonderful job of showing off their abundant talent. Great work boys and girls. We are all looking forward to the next event. Below is a slide show that highlights the morning event.
Pupil of the Week Awards
Congratulations to our Pupil of the Week Award winners, to our Marvellous Manners and also our Good Citizen Award winners. They are really presenting themselves as excellent ambassadors of the school. This week our assembly featured a talk about how we can put our faith into action. Our Good Citizen Award winners demonstrate that in how they think of others everyday. Well done boys and girls!
Room 6 News
The boys and girls of Room 6 were highly creative today as they designed and made their own ear muffs. A handy thing to make in this cold and chilly weather. Hopefully the boys and girls will do a fashion show for us next week at our assembly.
Good Luck
The school has quite a few children setting off tomorrow to represent the school at two sporting events. We have a large group of Pr.6 and 7 pupils attending the Sportshall Athletics at Ravenscraig and a large group of talented gymnasts heading off to Airdrie Academy to compete at the NL Championships. It is all very exciting. We wish all our athletes and gymnasts every success tomorrow. They are already winners in our eyes!!
Football Superstars
Our talented football team attended their latest fixture as part of the Coatbridge Friendship League on Wednesday. They were a real credit to the school on a cold and windswept park at St.Ambrose High School. At half time the score was 4 – 1 to Kirkshaws but the team dug deep and produced a marvellous performance to bring the final score to 4-3. It was a very narrow defeat that left the boys annoyed that they missed out on a draw that would have been more reflective of the game. Great work boys!!! You really did the school proud and showed once again your excellent skills and sportsmanship! Roll on the next fixture!

Friday Assembly
On Friday our House Captains and Vice Captains did a wonderful job presenting their last assembly as Captains. They have been tremendous ambassadors of the school and have inspired many of our Pr. 7 pupils to put themselves forward as House Captains for this term. Friday’s assembly was action packed with lots of school news shared and pupil achievements and school ambassadors being celebrated. This week we have a lot of children attending sporting events across the authority and we wished them all good luck! At our assembly children also learned some interesting facts about Rabbie Burns and tested their knowledge with a quiz at the end.
Rabbie Burns Supper
As noted within our newsletter the boys and girls of Room 13,14,15 and 16 will host a Burns Supper for parents and grandparents of those classes. However, the event clashes with pupils from that stage who will be attending the NLC Sportshall Athletics Championships. At the time of going to print I thought the event was to take place from 10 – 12, however, the event is from 10 – 2.00 that day. As a result of this clash our Rabbie Burns Supper will take place on Monday 25th January at 1.30pm. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may now cause if required to alter previously set arrangements. Children from the stated classes will be sending their invites home with the amended date.
School Newsletter
An electronic copy of the January – February Newsletter is available on the drop down menu under school information. Please note that the issued copy to all pupils did not indicate what month the children were going to the Science Centre. This outing for all pupils will take place in March. Apologies for any confusion.
