Tesco Visits

This week and last week classes have been very busy visiting Tesco as part of their Farm to Fork initiative.  The children have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and came back enthused after their trip.  It was wonderful that the sun was shining to make the short walk to Tesco and most enjoyable one.  Many thanks to all the parent helpers who assisted on the various visits.  Your support is most appreciated.

New Entrants

Tomorrow afternoon the school community will welcome our new entrants who will begin school in August as Pr.1 pupils.  The boys and girls will get the opportunity of carrying out some activities in a new learning enviroment, meeting new friends and becoming familiar with some school staff.  We are delighted they are coming to join us and we look forward to August when they become St.Augustine’s pupils.

Science in Room 10

On Friday afternoon, Room 10 made a huge scientific discovery! Last week they carefully placed an egg in a cup of vinegar and let science take its course. As soon as the egg was dropped in the vinegar, hundreds of tiny bubbles began to appear. They found out that these bubbles are actually a gas called carbon dioxide, which is the same gas found in fizzy drinks. They left the egg for a week and  made predictions of what might happen. The boys and girls couldn’t believe their eyes on Friday when they took the egg out of the cup of vinegar, the egg shell had completely disappeared!! It left behind a delicate layer of skin, called a membrane, allowing you to see into the egg! Everyone was so excited by this amazing discovery, and couldn’t wait to share their learning with the rest of the school!

RACE NIGHT

The PTA Family Race Night was a huge success on Friday with a full house and lots of families coming out in support of the school and the great efforts of the PTA.   The PTA and school would like to extend a huge thanks to everyone for their support on the night and for their generosity in contributing to PTA funds.  The evening took place in the newly refurbished Church Hall which was a perfect venue.  Our picture gallery gives a flavour of the PTA’s very successful night.  Great work ladies!!

Angle Work with Room 13

Room 13 have just started learning about angles. As an introduction, they created Angle Munchers…strange little beings with rather large mouths. Interestingly, their mouths are a perfect right angle and whilst a right-angled snack is their favourite to munch on, they also enjoy the occasional acute angle treat.
However, as the children found out, an obtuse angled snack is a little too big for even the most hungry Muncher.

The newly painted playground proved to be snacktastic!
