when studying Higher Physical Education pupils will learn about their own performance and how it can be improved. Pupils will learn about the factors that impact on their performance and they will implement and evaluate approaches to develop performance further.
Assessment
- Performance: This involves pupils completing two performance in two separate activities. It is the pupil’s choice which activity they are assessed in but the assessment must be in a ‘controlled’ environment and must match the expertise with the P.E. department. Each performance is worth 30mks (25% of the overall award). The performances are internally assessed by PE staff at St Ambrose High School.
- Written Exam: 2.5 hrs made up of 3 sections worth 50mks (50% of overall award).
The exam centres around how the four factors (Mental/Emotional/Social/Physical) influence performance and how performance in physical activities can be improved.When studying Higher PE pupils will participate in the following activities:
- Badminton
- Volleyball
- Basketball or Football
HIGHER DANCE
Higher synopsis
Within the Higher (National 6) course pupils learn how to use dance techniques and choreography creatively to enhance performance. They experiment with a range of dance styles and learn how to apply them to enhance their own performances and the performances of others. This one year course is both internally and externally assessed. Pupils must achieve the internal assessments within school before progressing towards the external exams.
Assessment (internally within school)
- You will be assessed through a number of tasks, both written and practical.
- You are to produce a piece of choreography for 3 or more people (you cannot be in it).
- You are to perform technique classes and routines for both Contemporary and Jazz.
- You will also undertake a number of practical tasks in the form of workshops.
- THESE ASSESSMENTS ARE ON A PASS/FAIL BASIS
Assessment (external exam based)
- You will perform a Dance in both Contemporary and Jazz
- You will prepare your dancers to perform your choreography.
- You will complete a choreographic review.
- You will sit a written exam (2 hours long)
- FOR THESE ASSESSMENTS YOU WILL BE GRADED A-D
