To help you practice with your child at home we have provided the words to the songs

Ante preschool children, those children returning next session

The Day I Went To Sea

When I was one I’d just begun the day I went to sea

I jumped on board a Pirate’s ship and the captain said to me:

We’re going this way, that way, forward and backwards over the Irish Sea,

forwards and backwards over the sea and that’s the life for me.

When I was two I buckled my shoe the day I went to sea

I jumped on board a Pirate’s ship and the captain said to me:

We’re going this way, that way, forward and backwards over the Irish Sea,

forwards and backwards over the sea and that’s the life for me.

Row Your Boat

Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream,

merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.

Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream,

if you see a crocodile don’t forget to scream!

Two Little Pirates

(Said to the tune of ‘Two Little Dickie Birds’)

Two little pirates sailing on their ship,

one called Pete, the other called Pip.

Sail away Pete, sail away Pip,

come back Pete, come back Pip!

If You’re a Pirate and You Know It

(sung to the tune of ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It’)

If you’re a pirate and you know it, swab the deck (swish, swish),

if you’re a pirate and you know it, swab the deck (swish, swish),

if you’re a pirate and you know it, and you really want to show it,

if you’re a pirate and you know it, swab the deck (swish, swish).

If you’re a pirate and you know it, say ahoy, Ahoy! (with arm movement),

if you’re a pirate and you know it, say ahoy, Ahoy! (with arm movement),

if you’re a pirate and you know it, and you really want to show it,

if you’re a pirate and you know it, say ahoy, Ahoy! (with arm movement).

NURSERY SMILE

I’ve got something in my pocket,

it belongs across my face,

I keep it very close to me,

in the most convenient place,

I know you’ll never guess it,

though you will try a long, long while.

So I’ll take it out and put it on,

it’s my great big nursery smile.

WE’RE All GOING TO SCHOOL IN THE SUMMER

We’re all going to school in the summer, school in the summer, school in the summer

We’re all going to school in the summer, hip, hip, hip hooray!

We’ll pack our bags and pencil case, pencil case, pencil case,

We’ll pack our bags and pencil case, hip, hip. hip hooray!

We’ll do our homework, yes we will, yes we will, yes we will.

We’ll do our home work, yes we will, it will never be late.

We’ll say good bye to the nursery, nursery, nursery,

We’ll say good bye to the nursery, boo, hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo,

Cause we’re all going to school in the summer, school in the summer, school in the summer,

we’re all going to school in the summer, hip, hip, hip HOORAY!!!!!!

Bookbug visits Shotts Family Learning Centre

Some of the children brought their favourite stories to share with the residents of Rosehall Care Home where they spent time reading to them, introduced them to Bookbug and sang their favourite nursery rhymes.  Katie Moo appeared to be a particular favourite where the residents enjoyed hearing the scots dialect throughout the story.

The children visited the Nature Park where they listened to familiar stories and brought them to life within their natural surroundings. The Bookbug enjoyed his experience in the forest too.

The children had great fun while taking part in a pyjama party at the Healthy Living Centre.  The children listened to different stories as well as taking part in a variety of games and songs.

We even had a visit from Bookbug!

The children enjoyed a healthy snack at the local Café accompanied by a special friend from one of their favourite stories “The Tiger Who Came to Tea”

They even shared their snack with Tiger while listening to the story.

Jenny and the Bear

The aim of the Jenny and the Bear poem is to raise awareness of the dangers of second hand smoke to children and more importantly their parents and carers.  Jenny and the Bear is a poem of a young girl and her teddy who are exposed to second hand smoke.  Over the next few weeks Nicola will be working with a small group of children using this resource to develop their understanding

However we recognise that you may also like to have a copy of the poem which was adapted by, Rosie our Kodaly tutor.

The link will take you to a pdf publication of the poem which you can share with your child.

We have also attached the completed results of the baseline questionnaire taken in the early level cloakroom in April 2015.

 Jenny and the Bear

Jenny has a special bear, she takes him everywhere.

One day when they were out with mum, they all got quite a scare.

It rained and poured and they got wet, it really was bad luck.

When they got home, mum made hot drinks to help them all warm up.

Mummy lit a cigarette and had it with her tea.

The next day they both felt sick, the doctor they did see.

He said smoking hurts our lungs, and avoid if it we could.

“Please smoke outside” is what he said to mum, who said she would.

Take 7 steps from your back door and keep the smoke out there.

Now Jenny and her bear want us to know that young lungs need clean air.

Developing curiosity in the birth to three environments

The children in the birth to three playrooms have been developing their curiosity through lots of fun exploratory experiences.
