“Whatever Next” Story Massage session

Thank you to everyone who attended todays sessions your support is greatly appreciated as these Family learning oppertunities can not happen without you!

8 Families attended todays sessions where everyone’s wishes were respected and listened to as children were asked “is it ok if I give you a Story Massage?”  As the nurturing Story Massage took place and the children began to relax with each stroke you really could have heard a pin drop and as you can see from the photographs how relaxed the children are.

Children then went off in their very own rocket to fly to the moon where they had a delicious picnic with the bear while the parents created their very own fantastic Story massages to share at home with their Children.

In the afternoon some of the children helped to create their very own Story massage and were very much included in choosing the strokes and some of the words too.

Well done everyone!

Parental involvement is key to the success of the Story massage sessions, they are proving to be a highly effective way for engaging parents in their child’s learning. Through positive touch parents have been able to spend good quality one to one time with their children in a calm relaxed atmosphere.

while the children went off to explore an activity around the story the parents worked together to invent their very own story massage to use with their children at home.

Story massage

Last weeks “ shark in the park” story massage was a huge success with everyone having a lovely relaxing time combining the creativity of the story with the benefits of positive touch. With everyone nice and relaxed the children then went off to look for sharks with their telescopes while the big people wrote their very own story massage to take home and further enjoy the benefits of story massage.

We have been learning to………..

Children have been learning all about shape in a fun and interactive way throughout the nursery environment and beyond. Almost all children have participated in shape hunts within the local community  or within the garden or indoors they have cooperatively played shape games, making shapes with the play dough, with their fingers in shaving foam and using paint or pens to create their own representations of known shapes the children have had the opportunity  to recognise, name, sort and describe the properties of the most common 2D shapes.

Many children have also had the opportunity to explore ways to design and construct their very own models. They have been encouraged to make a plan of what is going to be built, gather the materials they need from the loose parts around the nursery and with thought provoking questions they have been given the time and support to create their models which they have very proudly taken home to share with their families.

During ABC music sessions the children have been active participants in learning the rhyme “Jack and Jill”, we have been taking a closer look at the words within the rhyme, the sounds they make, the rhythm they have and the steady beat within it. We are now beginning to explore the syllables within the words which rhyme. We will then move on to exploring the sounds of the letters within our names and how many syllables we have within them.

Do you have any loose parts at home which the children could use at their tinkering table?…corks, nuts and bolts, chains, string, wood off cuts, wood shavings etc.

All of the children have been issued with an out in line of an egg to decorate at home, but they need your help to write an Easter joke, rhyme or riddle on the back. We will then use these at the annual family Easter egg hunt in Shotts Nature Park on Thursday 29th March 2018.

A huge big thank you to all parents/carers who attended the recent workshop with Nicola and Christine your attendance was greatly appreciated and feedback has suggested that those who had attended found it to be informative, interesting and have taken many ideas home, which they can use to further enhance their child’s skills in literacy.

The workshop began with a fun interactive Nursery rhyme quiz as the importance of having fun with these was discussed we then went on to talk about the 4  areas of literacy – oral language, phonological awareness, concepts of print and fine motor development. The session ended with the much deserved story massage of “Pete’s a Pizza”.  The group were introduced to the strokes that the children are learning in nursery and will be presented with a story massage book for use at home with their wee ones.
