Big chef little chef

Big Chef, Little Chef family cooking programme was delivered in the centre by Jen Dawson, CLD Homelink Worker and was funded by the Family Learning Centre.

The programme ran for three weeks from Friday 1st – 18th May.

A total of 10 families participated over the 3 sessions.

Much fun was had as families learned new recipes, tried new foods and developed new skills throughout the programme. Our little chef’s loved squeezing their own orange juice and using a spiralizer to make courgette spaghetti hair!

Over the 3 weeks we made:

Healthy cheese & salad wrap / Fresh fruit salad

Vegetable kebabs / Apple crumble

Mini Happy Face Pizzas / Fruit kebabs

Early Level Transition with Dykehead Primary School

Transitions for children can at times be traumatic if they are not handled and planned for carefully. However, the recent transition sessions for children and families between the centre and Dykehead Primary School have been excellent this year.

To finish the series of events the children invited all of their buddies to join with them in a nurturing nature event at Shotts Nature Park.  Their were 32 preschool children joined by 40 Primary 6 pupils from Dykehead Primary, who all behaved exemplary.  Together they took take part in bug hunts, creating fairy doors, story telling, bark rubbing, blind trails and fairy crowns.

Christmas Party Songs

The children have been preparing for their visit from Santa Claus at their Christmas Party.  To help you practice with your child at home we have provided the words to the songs below.

We’ll build a jolly snowmanJolly Snowman

We’ll build a jolly snowman with some snow,

in his hand a snowball made of snow,

for his head a bucket, eyes of coal,

for his nose a carrot, his mouth a hole.

We’ll build a jolly snowman with some snow,

in his hand a snowball made of snow,

get ready Mr Snowman, now we’ll try,

just to throw a snowball, in the sky!

RudolphRudolph the red-nosed reindeer

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer, had a very shiny nose.

And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows.

All of the other reindeer, used to laugh and call him names.

They never let poor Rudolph, join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say:

“Rudolph with your nose so bright, won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?”

Then all the reindeer loved him, as they shouted out with glee.

“Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, you’ll go down in history!”

When Santa got stuck up the chimneysanta-chimney

When Santa got stuck up the chimney he began to shout

“You girls and boys won’t get any toys if you don’t pull me out!

My beard in black, there’s soot on my sack, my nose is tickly too,”

When Santa got stuck up the chimney, Achoo! Achoo! Achoo!

 Jingle BellsChristmas Eve is here

Christmas Eve is here, it’s time to go to bed.

As we climb the stairs, nod our sleepy head.

Take our stockings off, and hang them in a row.

Then jump quickly into bed, and off to sleep we go.

Oh, Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!

Oh what fun it is to ride on a one-horse open sleigh.

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!

Hurrah! For dear old Santa Claus.  Hurrah! For Christmas day.

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas,

We wish you a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

Good tidings we bring, to you and your kin,

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas
