the great outdoors
Children in the birth to three nursery have been keen to take their learning outdoors. They have been learning to wait and turn take on the slide, experiment with weight, measure and number in the mud kitchen and water zone, along with practicing and enhancing their movements using the balance bikes and through climbing up over and under benches, train and bushes. They all have been keeping themselves really busy.
We would also like to say a huge big welcome to the new children who are now part of our nursery family – hope you all have as much fun at nursery as we do.
Learning in the Sunshine and Rainbow Room….
The children within the sunshine room have been developing their communication skills by investigating a range of materials to mark make. they are also exploring books, stories and rhymes.
Rhyme Time Stay and Play
Week 5 – Little green frog
The room was transformed into a lovely pond with a variety of frogs to explore and a very comfortable lily pad to sit on with your wee one as we learned the new song.
Everyone had fantastic fun together as we searched for bugs to feed the frogs, created our very own catch the bugs game and we laughed together as the frogs jumped on and off the velcro material.
After a delicious frog themed snack we welcomed a very special visitor to help us celebrate the end of a very successful block of stay and play sessions.
Bookbug presented the children and families with a very special goody bag full of lots of exciting resources which will enabled the families who had taken part to continue the fun at home.
The next block of stay and play sessions will commence on Thursday 28th April 1:15pm – 2:30pm – Hope to see you there!
Families who attended the sessions have given staff some really positive feedback which reflect just how successful the sessions were.
“The way the room was decorated was great,
this was my favourite(green frog)”

as well as a little blue fish song in the same tune”

Little Miss Muffet
There was a fabulous turn out this week for our Rhyme Time Stay and Play session. A big thank you to all who have been attending and making this a successful programme. This weeks theme was “Little Miss Muffet” which is an old traditional rhyme which dates back to the 16th century. It was created by Dr. Muffet who was a famous entomologist who wrote the first scientific catalogue of british insects. The rhyme was inspired by his daughter who while eating her breakfast one morning was frightened by a spider.
After singing our songs and learning our rhyme we then went on to create some play dough spiders and played a game of trying to get the spiders out from their webs. In the photographs below you can see just how much fun the families had playing together.

1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive.
What great fun we all had at Rhyme Time, learning our rhyme and making the fish bounce and swim on the stretchy blanket. The children and parents got very excited when it was their turn to be a fish and created a little wiggle, wiggle as they pretended to swim before going on to make their own sparkly fish to take home. To compliment our rhyme this week the lovely Jen created a fantastic snack for us with our very own swimming fish and numbered cold meats and cheese. Thank you again to everyone who came along to join in learning together.
Rainbow Room
It’s been great getting outside again in a more regular basis. The children have had so much fun exploring the mud kitchen and splash zone again. Indoors they have been keen to show off their building skills using lots of different materials just look at the concentration on their little faces they have been so proud of themselves.
New relationships in the Sunshine Room
We have welcomed some new infants and young children into the Sunshine Room who are certainly enjoying learning in the company of others. Their curiosity skills are developing as they work out how objects move by transporting one another or by gently signing Row, row, your boat. Solving how latches work and how doors are locked are keeping two of our learners thoroughly engrossed.
Pat a Cake, Pat a Cake
What an excellent turn out at our second family Rhyme Time Stay and Play session. This weeks main theme focussed around the rhyme “Pat a cake, Pat a cake”, which was then followed on with the children being supported in creating their own specially designed ice topped biscuit, before we settled down together to a healthy nutritious snack.
We look forward to seeing everyone again on Thursday at 1.15 pm.
