Charitable Classes

Every year our school aims to support a mixture of Local, National and International charities. This was a very popular choice from our initial home learning grid. Thank you to everyone who discussed different charities at home for our classes to consider.

Mrs Simpson collated all of the choices and made a super handy leaflet with all of the chosen charities for the year. It’s going to be fun seeing what every class comes up with to raise funds to send. We will keep you posted nearer to the time.

Iceberg Ahead!

P5/6 thoroughly enjoyed completing their Titanic inspired STEM challenge, as part of our Titanic IDL topic. After learning about buoyancy and factors which can impact upon floating and sinking, we designed and constructed our own lifeboats. We then tested our lifeboats and counted how many ‘passengers’ (marbles) they could safely hold. During our tests, we found that the safest lifeboats had the largest surface areas, with the most efficient lifeboat carrying 110 passengers to safety.

Japanese Lanterns

P5/6 have been learning about Japan, with Miss Macartney. After learning about the symbolism behind Japanese lanterns, we were keen to make our own. We carefully followed a series of intricate steps to create our traditional lanterns. Keep checking our blog to find out how you can make your very own!

Glorious Graphs

P5/6 have been learning about different ways to present data. We carried out a special task for our local supermarket, to design a new Fairtrade product. Working co-operatively, we conducted surveys across the school to help us decide on our chosen product. Using our raw data, we then displayed our results in a graph of our choice. Finally, we designed our product packaging and created a poster displaying our results.

Blogging

We are Katie and Tillie. We are in the after school blogging club 🙂 The most exciting thing in Ravenswood Primary this week is Charan. At first we take our shoes and socks off. We join in dancing and drama with Charan. P4/5, P5/6 and P6 enjoy learning dance with Charan every Thursday afternoon in the gym hall.

Active Literacy Workshop

We are hosting an Active Literacy Workshop on Wednesday 16th November at 9.30am and 6.30pm. This will be a fun filled, informative event where you can see our children working their socks off as they learn.

Two presentations will take place, an infant and upper school. You will e encouraged to visit the presentations and lessons that best suit your child’s needs. There will be lots of information about how you can help your child and some freebies from the ‘Read, Write, Count’ initiative for our infant learners.

If you would like to learn more about ‘Read, Write, Count’ have a look at their website by following the link below.
