Fraction Fun in P3

P3 have been learning how to identify, read, write and draw different fractions. We have been making pizza, using washing lines and playing fraction bowling to help us.

Today we took to the great outdoors to practise drawing and writing 1/2’s, 1/3’s and 1/5’s.

Tomorrow we will start to solve fractions of amounts. Keep reading our blog to find out more!

Scottish Book Trust

Ravenswood Primary took part in the Scottish Book Trust Children’s Book Awards.  The senior buddies shared 3 fantastic story books as part of our reading buddy time.  The infants thought long and hard about their favourite book and voted.

All of the votes were counted and the winner was announced.  Congratulations goes to…Mouses First Night At Moonlight School!

At the end, we all took home all 3 stories to keep and enjoy.  We love taking part in the Scottish Book Awards.  Have a look at our thank you certificate.

Marvellous Maths

This week we learned how to add tens and units numbers. We enjoyed using the Base 10 materials and Compare Bears to help us calculate the totals.

Using QR Codes, we self-assessed our work and could easily identify the learning we had achieved.

Excellent Enterprise

It has been a busy week for the Primary 3 ‘Merry Makers’. We have been researching, planning and creating our products to sell at the Christmas Fayre. We learned about the different skills needed to run a business, and the different roles within a company. In our business teams we worked cooperatively to make important business decisions. Our Market Research team helped us to decide on the best products to sell, while our Sales time researched competitor prices. The Product Design and Product Manufacturing teams worked especially hard to create package labels for our product. We then pitched our product to Ms Coull and blew her socks off as we secured a stall at the Christmas Fayre!

We can’t wait to start selling our super products, and we hope you visit our stall on the 28th of November.

Senses

Primary 3 have been learning about senses through our topic, ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark’. We carried out science investigations to learn more about hearing, touch and taste.

Delightful Doubles

Primary 3 have been learning about doubles and near doubles this week. We learned a super doubles rap to help us remember doubles facts, please ask us to perform this to you.

We really enjoyed using mirrors to investigate larger doubles, we can calculate double sums involving hundreds, tens and units!

Data Analysis

Primary 3 learned about different ways to record and display information. We can use tables, tally marks, graphs and Venn diagrams.

Food Chain Fun

Primary 3 investigated ‘owl droppings’ to learn more about the diet of Barn Owls. We also had a special visitor who taught us about owl habitats. Our visitor brought a real Barn Owl wing and claw for us to investigate.

Wedding joy!

Primary 3 have been learning all about Christian weddings as part of their Religious, Moral and Education Studies. The class have taken a great deal of time and effort to plan a class wedding. The whole school enjoyed this celebration. The weather was great, the learning was superb and the support from parents and carers from all classes was amazing. Thank you to all involved.
