Numeracy

Orchard Primary School is committed to delivering dynamic and purposeful learning opportunities which demand active involvement and develop independence and pupils’ responsibility for their learning within Mathematics and Numeracy.

At Orchard Primary School we aim to encourage children to

  • Engage in mathematical activity to develop procedures, process and theory

  • Develop core mental maths skills and quick recall of basic facts
  • Use the skills in real life contexts across their learning
  • Understand and use mathematical language
  • Use technology to support and enhance learning

Children will have the opportunity to

  • Be challenged and supported as required
  • Be given regular written and verbal feedback
  • Make regular use of ICT to enhance teaching and learning
  • Take learning outdoors when appropriate
  • Use a range of resources
  • Work at an appropriate level for them

 

Each term children will receive a home learning sheet to give parents an overview of what learning is being developed in class. It will also give suggested activities that parents can complete at home if they wish.  Every week children will receive a sticker in their Homework Diary indicating the learning that is taking place in Numeracy and Mathematics in class that particular week.  Children will also have the opportunity to login to Sumdog and Active Learn at home to build confidence and reinforce class learning.
