Orchard Primary School and Nursery Parent Council

Dear Parents/Carers

As Chairperson of the Parent Council representing the Primary and Nursery, I am pleased to let you know that these are the members selected to represent the voice of you, the Parent Forum, for the next two year term.

What does a Parent Council do?

The Parent Council is there to help the school operate as a successful school.  It does this is a number of ways including:

Promoting close co-operation and communication between parents/carers and teachers;

Engaging in activities which encourage the education and welfare of the children; and

Acting as a place where parents can share ideas, interests and skills for the benefit of the school.

The Parent Council would not become involved in issues relating to individual children. These should be taken up with the class teacher or directly with our Head Teacher, Mrs Mackenzie, who operates an ‘open door’ policy for all parents/carers.

What’s Next?

Our meetings take place on the first Tuesday of every month. In September, we will discuss the way forward for our fundraising efforts for 2023-2024.

Events already planned

October – Halloween Disco for the children including a silent disco for the LCSC

December – Christmas Fair including Santa’s Grotto

Other events have been pencilled in but have still to be confirmed.

As there are still vacancies on the Council, any parent interested in supporting the school in this way, should make themselves known to any member of the Council.
