This week we checked up on our apples to see how the mummification process was coming along. We were amazed to see the changes from what they looked like a week ago! The apples looked much smaller and some of the salt had solidified, due to the water which had come out of the apples. We weighed the apple pieces and, as a class, worked out how much weight they’d lost over the week. We were really surprised with our results and can now imagine how the ‘resin’ covering a dead body would do the same job in Ancient Egyptian times. There was one girl in the class who had made the correct prediction of the mixture which would mummify the apple best – well done!
