Design and Manufacture provides an introduction to design, materials and manufacturing processes. Pupils will develop an understanding of the knowledge, skills and processes that are now fundamental in the commercially manufactured world in which we live in.
Design and Manufacture aims to develop pupils creativity and technological abilities. The course covers two areas:
Design:
- Understand the product design process from brief to design proposal.
- To initiate, develop, articulate and communicate design proposals
- To design/make/test processes
- Evaluate and resolve work
- Understand the factors that influence the design of products
Manufacture:
- Understand the product design process from design proposals to prototype and product (reading drawings, communicate design ideas and practical details).
- Develop practical skills that are invaluable in the design/make/test process (creating 2D/3D models from the workshop to CAD software)
- Understand the properties and uses of materials, as well as simple manufacturing processes and techniques.
- Refine and resolve design and manufacturing solutions.
Design and Manufacture career pathways include many types of Engineering, Product Design, Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Computer Aided Design & Manufacture, Architecture and many others.
