Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral Primary School

These Primary 7 learners worked together on Thursday 12th December to plan a delicious three-course Christmas dinner. The girls had to work within a budget and used a real supermarket brochure to choose the various items of food. The task involved careful discussion and planning and the accurate addition of decimals to ensure the meal fell within the allocated budget.

These Primary 4 learners were very proud to share their Christmas animation with Mr Young on Thursday 12th December. The children worked together and used PowerPoint to create an animation of a snowman being built, complete with falling snow. Impressive digital skills!

The week beginning Monday 16th December is the last week of term and there are a number of Christmas events taking place.

MONDAY 16th: an opportunity for Primary 3 – 7 pupils to enjoy this year’s infant nativity, ‘Wriggly Nativity’.

TUESDAY 17th: morning and afternoon performances of our infant nativity, ‘Gabriel’s Big Break’ (9.45am and 1.45pm).

WEDNESDAY 18th: Christmas parties in the morning (the children should come dressed in their party clothes); ‘Robin Hood’ pantomime performance in afternoon for all Cathedral pupils.

FRIDAY 20th: Movie-Duvet Day… an opportunity for pupils to come to school in their pyjamas or other comfy clothes, curl up with a blanket or teddy and enjoy some movies together.

No matter how close it gets to the Christmas holidays, the learning never stops here at Cathedral. These Primary 7 learners did, however, take a wee break after completing their Scottish National Standardised Assessments on Wednesday 11th December to engage in some slightly more relaxed learning involving Christmas crafts. Much easier on the brain, for sure, but still lots of opportunities to use and develop technology, art and listening and talking skills!

Cathedral pupils were treated to a fabulous festive feast on Wednesday 11th December at our annual school community Christmas dinner. There was a choice of turkey with all the trimmings, steak pie or the vegetarian option, rounded off with ice cream and a chocolate treat. As usual, the occasion was made all the more special with table cloths, napkins and even table service from our Primary 7 waiters… and, of course, there was lots of Christmas music to sing along to!

Many thanks to the catering team for preparing such a delicious Christmas dinner for Cathedral pupils and staff!

Mr Young’s band of festive elves worked as an incredible team on Wednesday 11th December to prepare for Cathedral’s annual Christmas dinner. As you can imagine, feeding over 500 hungry mouths requires very slick organisation and the efficient production line set up by our elves ensured everything was ready ahead of Cathedral pupils descending on the dining hall for the feast of the year!

Cathedral has another talented swimmer within its ranks. This Primary 7 learner did exceptionally well in the recent Motherwell and Wishaw swimming gala winning:

• 1st in the Devine trophy
• 1st in Diving
• 1st Juvenile captain
• 1st in the Foster trophy
• 1st in the 2 lengths freestyle
• 2nd in the team race

Cathedral Primary is absolutely delighted to publish our January – June 2025 Family Learning programme!

Along with the usual coffee mornings and learning showcases, there will be the opportunity for parents and carers to find out how Cathedral uses digital technology to support and enhance learning across the curriculum. This will include the chance for parents and carers to work and learn alongside their child in the classroom. Each class has been allocated an individual date/time, so please check this carefully and pop it in your diary.

We have a separate programme of targeted Family Learning workshops next term, aimed at parents and carers whose child receives input from our ‘Attainment Team’. The A Team will be in touch with parents and carers directly about these opportunities.

Jan – June 2025 Family Learning programme

As part of our Campus Connections programme, these three Cathedral learners had the exciting opportunity to enjoy Firpark Primary School’s Christmas concert on Tuesday 10th December. They were entertained by the choir before being taken by Firpark classes on a humorous journey through various popular television shows including ‘Dancing on Ice’, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and ‘The Masked Singer’. The morning ended with a film of Firpark infant classes performing their nativity, ‘Everyone loves a baby’. Many thanks to Firpark Primary for the VIP invitation!

Primary 3 were busy Christmas elves recently, producing festive popcorn bags and candy canes in their workshop for their Christmas enterprise project. The children set up a stall at the two Primary 3 – 7 Christmas concert performances on Friday 6th December and sold EVERY item by the end of the afternoon. All money raised will be donated to St Andrew’s Hospice.
