Primary 3 learners made the scenic journey to Largs on Wednesday 4th June to spend a fascinating day at Vikingar. Our young historians
found themselves in an 8th Century Norwegian longhouse where they experienced a day in the life of a Viking. A Viking storyteller told the children how Vikings lived, what they ate and drank, where they slept and the reasons that caused them to leave their homelands. The children loved trying on replica helmets and armour and even got to hold swords, shields and axes.
This was Cathedral’s first visit to Vikingar, but it definitely won’t be the last!
Inspired by her current novel, ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’, this Primary 7 learner visualised how the setting of the story would look from both sides of the fence. She accessed the resources in her learning street’s Creation Station and created this fantastic 3-D model showing the contrast between the concentration camp and Bruno’s house and garden. Impressive learner-led learning!
Cathedral pupils danced the night away at our two Shorts & Shades discos on Tuesday 3rd June. There were some very cool summer outfits and lots of equally cool dance moves around the hall!
Cathedral Primary was delighted to welcome two inspirational visitors to the school’s weekly assembly on Monday 2nd June: Mrs Julie McCarthy and Glasgow neurosurgeon, Mr Roddy O’Kane. The following press release tells the story:
Primary 4 took to the stage on Friday 30th May for a fascinating learning showcase all about the Victorians. Their audience were entertained with a host of lively, toe-tapping songs whilst discovering fascinating facts about Victorian inventions such as the telephone and bicycle, how industrialisation transformed life in Great Britain and what it was like to attend a Victorian school. The audience also heard about child labour in the Victorian era, how numerous children opted to be pickpockets rather than go to the workhouse, and the changes in law which eventually improved the lives of children.
Mr Young, Mrs Duffy, Mrs Campbell and Fr Lamb made the hour-long journey to Lendrick Muir on Thursday 29th May to spend part of the final evening of the trip with Primary 7. Following Mass for Ascension Day, everyone enjoyed a delicious meal together before the evening activity.
Cathedral girls football team excelled at the NLC Fair Play Cup at Firpark stadium pitches on Thursday 29th May, winning four and drawing in two matches. Coach Willie was exceptionally proud not only of the girls’ football skills but also of their exceptional behaviour and sportsmanship. Well done, Team OLGA!
Primary 7 enjoyed a second action-packed day at
Lendrick Muir on Wednesday 28th May. Activities included archery, karting, king swing and gladiator challenge. Following another delicious dinner, the day ended with the ever-popular murder mystery.
Day 1 of Primary 7’s residential excursion to Lendrick Muir finished off around the campfire on Tuesday 27th May. The children spent the day engaged in a variety of activities including climbing and team-building and enjoyed a delicious evening meal together (you NEVER go hungry at Lendrick Muir!).
Primary 7 learners were delighted to receive their leavers hoodies on Thursday 22nd May, ahead of their residential trip to Lendrick Muir. The Cathedral-green hoodies feature a large ‘ LEAVERS 25’ on the back containing the names of all 75 Primary 7 pupils moving on from Cathedral at the end of term. Primary 7 can look forward to wearing their hoodies with pride throughout their final weeks in Cathedral.
