Smart School Council class meetings took place across Cathedral week beginning Monday 28th April in response to an idea placed in our suggestion box by several different learners. The question learners discussed was linked to Theme 3 of ‘How good is OUR school?’, which focuses on our successes and achievements:
How should we organise and run this term’s ‘Cathedral’s Got Talent!’ ?
As always, Cathedral learners came up with lots of carefully thought-out ideas. These were collated by House Captains on Wednesday 7th May and our Smart School Council action board has now been updated (see above). We have four action points:
- Organise talent show auditions
- Timetable acts for each year group
- Contact judges in advance
- Arrange trophies for winning acts
Watch this space for updates on our final Smart School Council project of the year!
His Majesty’s Inspectors of Education (HMIe) will carry out an inspection of Cathedral Primary School and Nursery Class during the week commencing Monday 12th May. Please click on the link below to access an interactive summary of the strengths and good practice Cathedral Primary will share and celebrate with inspectors during their visit:
As the conclave begins today, Wednesday 7th May, Cathedral school community joins with the Church around the world in praying for the cardinals, that they will be guided by the Holy Spirit.
As part of their People who help us topic, Primary 1 learners met members of the Scottish Fire Service on Friday 2nd May. A fire engine visited the school grounds and the children had the opportunity to find out about the various pieces of fire-fighting equipment, sit inside the engine and even try out the hose!
Following the recent death of Pope Francis, a conclave to elect the new pope will begin on Wednesday 7th May. The conclave is an ancient and fascinating process and this Primary 4 learner was curious to find out what it entails. He decided to carry out some research at home and showcased his findings on this fantastic poster. What an incredible piece of work!
Primary 6 hosted another successful coffee morning on Friday 2nd May. As always, it was great to see the hall filled with families and friends enjoying a catch up over coffee and cake. The event raised a fantastic £683.97 for school funds.
This Primary 3 learner was very proud to show off his Blue Peter badge to Mr Young on Thursday 1st May. He won it for writing about a book he particularly enjoyed: ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl. However, he didn’t stop there but went on to write about ‘Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator’ and also talk about how he likes the way David Walliams uses adjectives and adverbs in his books. Mr Young always wanted to win a Blue Peter badge when he was a boy, so is very jealous indeed!
May’s wellbeing indicator is INCLUDED. Please use the prompts below to talk to your child about this indicator. This will help them complete their wellbeing wheel in school.
Our Primary 6 buddies joined their friends in the nursery on Wednesday 30th April to enjoy some indoor and outdoor learning together. The above group headed to the sand area, finding some dinosaurs on the way, and had great fun creating a prehistoric land for their dinosaurs to explore.
Primary 1 parents and carers had the opportunity to join their child in class on Tuesday 29th April for the last of our digital family learning workshops. Each of the three sessions opened with a presentation on how digital can support literacy and numeracy across the curriculum. Our Primary 1 learners then enjoyed using the ‘Bee Bot’ app on their ipad to do some coding with their parent/carer. Very impressive computing skills from our young learners!
