Primary 6 took to the stage on Friday 28th March to showcase their recent learning on Australia. The vibrant, informative and humorous performance included Captain James Cook’s expedition to Australia in 1770, Australian wildlife and the country’s famous landmarks. One of the highlights was Cathedral’s very own ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’, when Mr Young and Mrs Duffy joined Australian celebrities to eat worms, eye-balls and drink fish guts! The showcase ended with an energetic performance of ‘Do the Locomotion’.
This showcase was particularly poignant as one of our Cathedral families, the Darrochs, emigrate to Australia on 8th April. Findlay and Isla will be sorely missed, but we wish them well in their new life down under!
Well done to Primary 6 for pulling off such a fantastic learning showcase, and many thanks to Mrs Callaghan, Mrs McMillan and Mr Hamill for all their hard work preparing the children for their special performance.
Lenten almsgiving on Friday 28th March was particularly close to Cathedral’s heart as Mrs McCarthy continues to receive treatment for a brain tumour. Learners and staff wore their ‘hats of hope’ throughout the day to help find a cure for all types of brain tumours and Mrs McCarthy popped in to show her appreciation. A total of
Thursday 27th March was the final session of
Block 1 of Forest Schools and our nursery learners had the opportunity to showcase the new skills they’ve learned over the past few weeks to their parents and carers. The children worked as a team to get to the forest site safely and then demonstrated how quickly and independently they could set up base camp.
“Only in Cathedral Primary,” said Mr Young to himself as he walked past Primary 5a immediately after an inside lunch on Thursday 27th March. Despite Mrs Devaney having yet to return from the staffroom, our learners were already waiting quietly and ready to say their prayers. That’s the sort of exemplary behaviour that makes Cathedral such a special place to be!

This Primary 2 pupil had the opportunity for some learner-led learning on Wednesday 26th March. Inspired by the main modern language taught here in Cathedral, he headed to his learning street’s construction area and used the Duplo bricks to create the Spanish flag. Ingenious!

Primary 3 parents and carers had the opportunity to join their child in class on Tuesday 25th March for a digital family learning workshop. Each of the three sessions opened with a presentation on how digital can support literacy and numeracy across the curriculum. Our Primary 3 learners then enjoyed using ‘Scratch Jnr’ on their ipad to do some coding with their parent/carer which involved creating moving characters. Very impressive computing skills!
This Primary 7 learner interviewed Mr Young on Monday 24th March for a very interesting (and historic) reason. Way back in 2000, the year Cathedral Primary celebrated its 125th anniversary, his mum was a Primary 7 pupil in Cathedral and interviewed a former Head Teacher for a special anniversary magazine. Twenty-five years down the line, we thought it would be a nice idea to do a similar interview and display the 2000 (mum) and 2025 (son) articles side by side in our 150th anniversary exhibition, which takes place in May.
Mrs Cassidy hosted a targeted health & wellbeing family learning workshop on Friday 21st March. Parents and carers were given an overview of our ‘Cool Connections’ programme and had the opportunity to join in with some of the activities. Cathedral learners shared their experiences of being part of the programme and spoke about how the weekly sessions have supported and developed their social and emotional wellbeing.
