Awards ceremony celebrates year of football achievements

Cathedral’s annual football awards ceremony took place on Wednesday 12th June. Resident coach, Willie McBirnie, led the proceedings and this year’s guest speaker was John McLaughlan, former Hamilton Accies player and current coach and Development Officer with Hearts. John spoke about the qualities clubs look for in their young players.

This year’s ACE (Attitude, Commitment and Effort) footballers were as follows:

Primary 5: Eva Mills and Ruadhan McPollin

Primary 6: Zara Banks and Harry O’Connor

Primary 7: Sophie Lafferty and Matthew Carroll

The Ace Trophy for outstanding sportsmanship was awarded to Luke Buchanan.

Well done to each and every one of our footballers for their excellent attitude and high level of commitment and effort this year and, of course, to Willie for giving so generously of his time each week to coach Cathedral pupils.
