Hand washing/Infection Control

The children are all being encouraged to take part in a ‘Handwashing Masterclass’ to ensure they are all following the correct Handwashing procedures.

  • Roll sleeves up and wet hands with warm running water.  Turn tap off.
  • Apply soap and lather hands by rubbing them together.  Lather the backs of hands, between fingers and under nails for at least 20 seconds.  We have been encouraging the children to sing Happy Birthday twice as this is a perfect amount of time. (Government recommendation)
  • Turn tap on and rinse all bubbles away with warm running water.
  • Take one paper towel and dry hands well. Use paper towel to turn tap back off.

We fully encourage this procedure at home with your children and that they are washing their hands regularly.  At Nursery, children are being encouraged to wash their hands at Welcome time, after using the bathroom, before eating any food or baking, when coming in from outdoors or if they are seen coughing into their hands or touching their mouth/nose.

We encourage the children to cough into the inside of their elbow and not their hands.
