Our Visit to Cambusnethan Priory

Some of the children in the green and purple groups were showing an interest in castles.  In response to this we organised a visit to Cambusnethan Priory to allow the children to explore their interests further.  The children were all excited to be travelling on the mini bus.  On arrival we were met by Graham who is the chairperson of Friends of Cambusnethan Priory.  He had some photographs and told us lots of information about who lived there, banquets they had and the orchard in the grounds.  He also told us the priory was 200 years old but the inside was destroyed by a fire some years ago.  Graham informed us the priory was Wishaw’s Castle and they are going to be working really hard to restore it and the gardens to a visitors centre to allow people to access and explore the area.  The children had printed out images of the various shapes and sizes of the doors, windows etc. which they looked for as they explored the outside of the priory further.  The children used their imaginations as we spoke about what life would be like inside the priory many years ago.  The children are now eager to explore inside an old building to see what it would have looked like.
