Smile Month and Butterfly Day

Hello Boys and Girls,

We hope you had fun with the scavenger hunt last week and enjoyed Mrs Brown’s bedtime story on Friday night.  If you missed it, don’t worry – you can watch it here.

We are in a new month now – the month of June.  June is national smile month so we have included some resources below that you could explore all about smiling and looking after those teeth 🙂

Monday 1st June is also national Butterfly Awareness Day, so it is a great time to watch Mrs Smith’s butterfly video and make some paper butterflies if you haven’t had the chance yet.  We would love to see them.

Look what else is new this week:

  • You will find a letter from the Executive Director for Education and Convenor of Education in the “Moving to Primary 1” section from the main toolbar.
  • Mrs Blevin’s is reading us a story all about a birthday treat. There are lots of resources around months of the year and birthdays on the read-a-long page.
  • Mrs Martin has set the challenge this week – it is a science experiment. Head over to the weekly challenge page to give it a go.

Remember to keep in touch, share your work with us on Twitter and in the Nursery Zone and we will see you all soon.  Miss you lots.

Sleep Support

North Lanarkshire Council are offering support to parents, families and children who may be anxious, stressed, worried and emotional for themselves and their loved ones.

We recognise that these anxieties can greatly affect ‘sleep’ which is a natural process. We all need sleep and our health and wellbeing could be greatly reduced by not getting enough sleep, particularly at these challenging times.

To help cope with these stresses, support through SLEEP COUNSELLING will be offered to those in need and a qualified sleep counsellor will be at hand to answer questions, suggest ideas, offer visuals and strategies or even just be a listening ear to help reduce any anxieties to our parents and families that lead to poor sleep hygiene.

Please contact:

Educational Psychologist

The Education Psychology Service in North Lanarkshire is providing home consultation support to help manage stresses during this difficult time. Telephone: 01236 812380 between 10am – 3pm Monday to Friday and leave a message for someone to call you back.

What a busy week we have

Hello boys and girls,

We are missing you all very much, but have loved seeing all the ribbons and hearts that children have been putting on the railings of our school and nursery. This cheers everyone up, so thank you very much.

Have a look around this week, we have added new content for you:

  • You can use the story with the three read approach and we have uploaded LOTS of resources to go along with it that you can use over the week.
  • Mrs Smith has set the weekly challenge for this week and it is to make paper butterflies.  You could even hang some on our school railings to go with the ribbons? We think you will have lots of fun making these.
  • We are working very hard to give you some information regarding graduation celebrations for those children who are preparing to move to Primary 1 in August.
  • This week is the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr which will fall in the UK between 23rd -24th May. This is the celebration of the breaking of the fast for Ramadan and is an important religious holiday for Muslims.  We have uploaded some resources below that you might want to explore with your child.
  • Thursday 21st May would have been Outdoor Classroom Day this year, and therefore we have also uploaded some additional resources below to supplement the suggestions already in our Outdoor Play section of the Nursery Zone.
