Room 8 News

MARCH 2020

In room 8 we are learning about Vikings: We are focusing our learning on the Norse gods as well as everyday Viking life.

We will be researching where the Viking homelands are, the countries invaded, longhouses, Viking clothing, jewellery, tools and jobs. You might want to do some research at home.

We are also loving learning Viking saga songs. We are using THIS BBC site – just click the link.

BBC Teach also has some interesting Viking pages.

We are trying to extend our sentences by using more interesting vocabulary and joining words.

Our common words working backwards are: We should be able to read and spell them.

write/ answer/ began/ heat/ page/ begin/ follow/ often/ letter/ woman/ read/ call/ even/ fly/ close / hard / song/ open/ would/ should/ great/ turn / also/ why/ white/ more/ place/ face/ icy/ city/ world/ between / add/ bird/ back/ story/ any/ body/ carry / along/ about/ around/ house/ hour/ side/ own/ small/ give/ live/ something/ tell/ large/ spell/ still/ saw/ spring/ sunny/ those/ home/ / second/ fifteen/ five, fourteen/ learn/ children/ because/ earth/ gave/ family/ how/ might/ windy/ time/ watch/ another/ know/ yellow/ father/ mother/ too/ school/ some/ never/ three/ again/ these/ people/ long/ bring/ what/ which

As always reading is fundamentally important –  keep reading through your chapter books and reading anything else you can get your hands on!

When you are reading think about: the characters / setting/ the problem(s) and solution(s) / the main theme /  what your opinion of the story is / what would you change / do you like the author’s style / did you enjoy the subject …

Read as big a selection of fiction and non-fiction books as you can to extend your knowledge and vocabulary.

Remember to read fiction aloud with appropriate expression.

Check Microsoft Teams for latest updates during school closure.
