P5/6 Garden Open Event

On Wednesday 27th May P5/6 invited parents and carers to help us in our school garden.  There was a big turn out from parents, grandparents and even sisters. We had great  fun and managed to get a lot of work done.

We dug over our vegetable beds and planted potatoes and shallots.  We used hanging baskets to plant strawberries and tumbling tomatoes.  Purple Haze carrots and Blood Red onions were thinned out and transferred from pots into grow  bags.  Pupils worked hard to weed our flower planters and added beautiful bright flowering plants.

P3 Trip to Dumfries House

On Fri 27th March P3 were very excited to go on their trip to Dumfries House.  We were blessed with sunny weather and got to enjoy all the outdoor activities as well as our cooking session!  P3 enjoyed cutting up vegetables and herbs to make a delicious pasta salad.  Some pupils were very good at trying new foods.

Afterwards we went outside for a vegetable hunt and the trip finished with some free time at the adventure playground.

Talking and Listening in Primary 5!

Today in Primary 5 we were learning how to write a fairy tale. The class were given a picture as a stimulus and the children worked with a partner to create a short story about the character in the picture. The children were able to successfully discuss and tell their story to the class. The class were a wonderful audience and we enjoyed making up our own stories. Our next step is to choose a fairytale and rewrite it, changing characters, the setting or the main events. I am looking forward to this and so are the children.

We entered a National Robert Burns Federation Art Competiton in January where the pupils were required to create a drawing inspired by a Burns poem. In response to this challenge, Callum drew ‘Twa dugs’, Connor’s drawing was inspired by ‘To A Louse’ and Hazel drew a beautiful rose inspired by the poem ‘My Love Is Like a Red, Red Rose’ ‘The judge was so impressed with the level of competence that they were placed as follows – Callum (1st), Connor (2nd) and Hazel (3rd). Callum will be presented with the Toshio Namba trophy, all pupils will be given a certificate and the school will be presented with a £100 cheque for School Funds.

A Burns Federation representative will visit Glenmanor to make the presentations. Well done! What an outstanding achievement! Thanks to Ms Brunton who teaches the pupils and prepared them for the competition.
